    A noob question here.

I expected XSserver to have this as one of it's main topics in it's help section, but I can't seem to find it.

As I've never used a VPS before what's the best method of transferring files to it from PC?

I was given the IP, username and password in the welcome email which I tried to use in FTP software, but didn't work. It does connect though when I use the remote desktop connection.

If it is a small file etc, you can just copy on your home PC and ctrl+V on your VPS, takes a while though.

I feel pretty foolish for not trying that.. I tried dragging the file and moving into the VPS window which displayed the icon suggesting it can't be done, so assumed the copy and paste wouldn't work either.

I may just do that with all files, unless there's a more efficient way of doing it.

Sounds weird though. FTP is the best way to transfer files from your PC to your VPS. Anyways, you can upload your files to mediafire and from your VPS, download the file you uploaded to mediafire.

    HTH,

Seems a long winded way of doing things though.

Maybe I've not selected the right option in the FTP software, but you'd assume there's a quick way to transfer files directly via something such as FTP software.

What are you running the VPS on? Im assuming Windows.

You can use an FTP server
    Code:
    http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=server
    http://winscp.net/eng/index.php
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_FTP_server_software
    Dropbox
    Code:

You could set up dropbox on both computers? This is a good way to move files quickly.

Cheers I'll give them a whirl. I knew there was a direct way, it was just finding the right software.

I'll check it out today and yeah it's Windows.

    Thanks again pal.
