This is something that's always bothered me because I do not (and will not) use Google webmaster tools, Bing, or anything on my sites.

Webmaster tools was never accurate enough for me + I use a a fair deal of BH SEO (pbn links, etc).

So I mainly just use userstats and serpfox for tracking keywords and traffic.

However, userstats does not show whether your traffic comes from Google, Yahoo or Bing.

I need to know this because my local sites got smashed by Penguin, but are still ranking in the top 3 of Yahoo and Bing and driving some traffic. And I also have some random top 3 rankings on G still. The problem is, I have no idea where the majority of my traffic is even coming from. Because I NEVER tried to rank on Yahoo or Bing, but I do. And I have enough #1 rankings on those search engines to make me suspect that more of my traffic may actually be coming from Yahoo and Bing... and not Google.

And if that's the story, I would like to work harder on both those engines.

However, like I said, I can't see what % of my traffic is coming from which SE. So is there any software (paid or free) that can tell me this? :)

    Thanks guys,

    -BB

Thanks guys. Nobody actually said 'I use xxx program and it tracks GYB traffic' so I had to go check out each program.

    • Stat Counter I'm 90% sure I've used before and it does not track GYB traffic.

    • The Yandex Metrica home page / details are very vague and judging on the graphs it only seems to track direct traffic, search engine traffic, link traffic or ad traffic. It does not look like YM actually tracks GYB.

    • Clicky looks pretty inaccurate judging by the individual users and actions section. Out of the 6 examples they show only 1 actually shows a search engine. 4 of their own examples don't even show the source of traffic which leads me to believe it isn't accurate.

    • Slimstats has a section that shows top traffic sources and is the only one that seems to track GYB traffic.

So I'll start with slimstats and see how that goes. Then if not I'll have to go on a demo installing spree.

I use Statcounter. It breaks down GYB, DDG, etc under the "search engine wars" section. It shows total and % of hits and breaks down G by locale.

Statcounter is best so far for me. Gives you all details like where the traffic comes from, IPs, what keywords brings traffic to you along with what that keyword ranked on G, How long visitors on site, how many and which pages viewed by visitor, etc..

Check out the statcounter. It shows accurate percentage of visits from each search engines and also shows the query KW used if the search is not encrypted.

Clicky has the option you're looking for too. You can find it under the menu point "Searches", and then "Engines.
