    Adword gurus, hi

    Need your help with following:

    1. I am using clicky to track the visitors on my site, and adwords to bring the visitors.
    Let say i have 3 main exact keywords: [keyword 1], [keyword 2], [keyword 3] they all lead to home page.
    How do i know which keyword 'brought' the customer?
    I did some 'spying' around and find that structure some advertisers use: when searching for "movers nyc" one advertiser showed landing url as "domain c o m?st-t=adwords&vt-k=movers nyc&vt-mt=e&rid=gaw&keyword=movers nyc&st-t=adwords&vt-k=movers nyc&vt-mt=e&gclid=CLG4TTT3rc8CFYcmhgodldkJbg"
    How do they get keyword? Do i have to create custom parameter for each ad, ad group? (that can work only for exact match keywords)
    Or is there universal variable that returns the keyword that i can put in tracking template for all account/compaign?

    2. Also what is the use of gclid? We can not decode it to get the keyword or ad? So why we need it at all? What data does gclid gives us, that we do not get from adwords data and tracker(clicky in my case)
    Most of advertisers i've checked use gclid, so seems like i am missing smng.

    Hi @back9,

    With GCLID you can:
    - Now what campaign, adgroup and word that made the conversion;
    - Now what hour was the conversion;

    What you have to do is enable autotagging in adwords, create an offline conversion in adwords, use the GCLID parameter in your tracking and time to time, upload the GCLID parameter to your adwords.

    Hope this will help.
    Best

    Add the conversion tracking code in AdWords and automatically you will be able to track which keywords brought you the sale.

    You don't have to use any GCLID.

    Thank you.

    That's true! :) Unless you will not have access to customer lp, there he has to use GCLID
