I'm looking for a way to track ad views for a classifieds ad site. This site does not allow the use of external images, so pasting code that references an externally hosted pixel or something like that no longer works. I'm looking for a service that can track ad views without the need of externally hosted images.

If you are selling services try to monitor calls by using call tracking campaigns. Or try to incorporate a squeeze page that asks the user to click on the image again to get to your site, the trick being that classified ads site is linked to that squeeze page. Would that work?

You can make a simple redirect script that will track your hits, then redirect to the desired real page. Example yourwebsiteurl.com/redirecturl/ Then the script on that page records the hit, then redirects to the desired page before anyone even knows the difference.

OP is looking to count impressions, not necessarily the clicks. And it's not possible anymore with out externally hosted images. That's how email campaigns are tracked. If a reader does not permit images to be shown in an email, then tracking pixels can't be used and you have no way to count the impression. Measuring by clicks alone may be your only option now.

You are right but to post more efficiently tracking ads is a very useful thing.

The "big classifed ads site" does not allow clickable links or images anymore.

The redirect method mentioned above works ok but you cant track a single ad anymore.

But it helps to see which sites are worth the affort.
