I've asked a version of this question before, but got general answer of running one of these website speed tests. Either I'm dense, or that's not specific enough.

I have a slow connection at home. It's a pain in the ass, but BrightHouse is my only option and doesn't deliver even 1/10th the speed I'm paying for.

So... I went out and bought vps on supposedly 1GB/s network connection located in Canada. And, I got a bunch of US proxies with supposed 1Gb/s connection. I thought all my speed issues would go away, but they haven't. I still get all sorts of problems from general sluggishness to timeout errors, and it's not on my end receiving the info. Websites the vps are trying to reach time out on the vps end.

So, someone isn't telling the truth about the connection speed, but how EXACTLY do I tell what the connection speed is of the vps INDEPENDENT of the proxy, and how EXACTLY do I tell the proxy speed independent of the vps?

Ready to jump ship and buy a whole bunch of proxies somewhere else today if it turns out to be the proxies (my suspicion)
