How to tell if theres a market for selling something online?

    I want to know if theres a market for certain products online. Take for example some hand crafted sculptures, would anybody buy something like that? Whats the best way to do research to see approximately how many sales could be made per month etc.

    in my experience, if something is being sold online period you can almost always find it on ebay. you could do a completed items search for "hand crafted sculptures'' and see if anyone is buying them. this is probably one of the only ways to see what people have actually bought online.

    I would write a list of keywords that are related and then go over to the google keyword research.

    now do a research on these keywords and see how many times are they searched per month.

    Another good way of seeing if there is market is to check if there is real competition. If there is a lot, then there is a market. Since they would not compete for something if there is no money made in that niche.

    Check if there are any forums in this niche. Have a look at what is discussed and perhaps even ask the community if they would be interested in something what you are offering. Dont spam though. And make it clear that you are not advertising , but just researching. Have a look on if there are social networking groups in that niche. Is product sold a lot on classifieds sites, ebay?

    I remember the way Howie Schwartz would test the market is : create a free report for that niche and advertise with google adwords for the keywords in that niche. If he get lots of downloads then there is a market.

    Find a website that's selling the product yer thinking of, take a look at the kind of traffic they're getting. Then go over to

    And see how much they're sending on adwords and which keywords they're going with. If theyr'e spending money, they gotta be making it, right?
