    Hi there,

I have some TV sites which embed videos (hosted elsewhere) and my visitors then play on my site, but I'm not sure whether a shared hosting package is sufficient or I need to maybe upgrade to a VPS?

Is there any way that I can tell? The website seems okay speed-wise to me, but then if there is a great increase by upgrading to a VPS which wouldn't be too much more expensive I believe it would be worth it.

I have one site that is averaging around 2000 UVs a day if that helps! The rest are closer to 100.

    Thanks

If the video is hosted elsewhere (as he stated) how can you be certain he needs VPS w/o any other info? 2,000 visits/day isn't excessive.

Web hosts do have a lot of flexibility with their vps hosting plans so I would suggest you to start with vps hosting plan. You can also consider cloud hosting option, because with cloud it is easy to upgrade or downgrade as you progress.

You will be fine, who are you with? Hostgator?

I have had sites with 4k hits a day at least all under the the same shared hosting account and not had issues

Depends who it is. If they are big oversellers then they will kick you off so fast. If they are ok then they will warn you and recommend you to get a vps from them.

If your host is GoDaddy or 1and1, you need a better host.

Not being funny. I've used their shared hosting and had sites basically fail to load because I was getting PHP timeouts etc. I went down the route of a VPS, but shared hosting has it's place as well.

I think you would be better off getting a vps. With shared hosting you risk down time and losing cash flow due to that down time. Check out knownhost.com. You can get a vps for $35 per month (vps2) and save 15% if you use kh4life.

If your website is touching the limits of currently assigned limits to your shared account them, shifting to basic VPS plan would be good choice.
