I was helping someone out in a PM with some advice that I thought would be useful for everyone. The main difference between the best, most successful internet marketers and the rest who never make money is this: Most people when they start a new project will immediately look for profit from day 1 and if they don't get profit on their first couple of attempts they give up and either try something else, or they get depressed and go back to the forums/tv/games for a while. The very best internet marketers, the guys who make 6-7 figures per year don't look for profit when they start. What they do is gather data, data and more data. See the difference in mindset and how important it is? How can you fail when your goal is to gather data? This applies not only to ppc, but to SEO, emailing, video marketing, social media and just about any method out there. Don't start with the intention of making money. Start with the intention of gathering data like a scientist. Keep DETAILED notes of your 'experiments' using your favorite method. I personally recommend a tree-based notepad called ActionOutline, but whatever you're comfortable with will be best. Your entire marketing and business career should be documented in your notes. Everything you do including every useful site, tip, method, success, failure and all your contacts should be kept there. It's also helpful to take a daily journal just writing brief notes about what you're doing on that day to help you track your activities. When you approach your online marketing business from the angle of gathering data about what works and what doesn't work then taking detailed notes, you literally CANNOT fail. How CAN you fail? The only way you can fail is if you don't do the work and take the notes. Think of the peace of mind that change in philosophy will give you. You no longer have to worry about something succeeding or not, because it's just one of many 100's of experiments you'll be doing and with each one you're learning what doesn't work, getting you closer and closer to what does work. So sit back, relax and enjoy your business. Don't have any expectations about making profit in any fixed time-frame. Have your profit goals, but don't put a rigid time-frame on them that puts pressure on yourself. You have your goal, then you set out every day to do your experiments, getting closer and closer each day. The more work you do, the more experiments you get done, the closer you get to profit. I hope these thoughts are of help to some of you who are feeling stressed and feeling like you're failing/have failed.
