Hi, I set up the SEO titles of my posts differently from the titles (<h1>). I use Rankmath to make the SEO titles. However, in some posts, GG still uses the title (<h1>) or headlines (<h2>) as the title instead of the SEO title I set up. How can I make GG only use the SEO title as the title? Any ideas?

Thank you very much.

I don't think it's possible
Thanks. Cuz I see my competitors also use the SEO titles differently from the h1 titles. But GG never uses the h1 title as the title on their posts. So don't know what I was doing wrong.

Google changes it for best user experience to adapt properly to your content.
We cant stop Google form doing so!

I've given up rankmath plugin for this specific problem as google is not respecting the seo titles entered in the plugin.
I'm using standalone h1 title tag in my wordpress which is my default title now. this seems to work.

More backlinks and more content added often. The site has no authority. When it does, it will be ok. That's what happens to all my sites when they are new.

When you set up an SEO title using a plugin like RankMath, Google usually uses that title instead of the H1 or H2 tags. However, in some cases, Google may choose to use the H1 or H2 tags instead of the SEO title.
The SEO title you set up is too long or too short. Google may decide to use the H1 or H2 tag if it thinks that the title you set up is not a good fit for the page or The website's code is not properly optimized for SEO. If the website's code is not properly structured or optimized for SEO, Google may have difficulty determining which title to use.

If you want to prevent Google from changing the SEO title of your posts, there are a few steps you can take:

  1. Optimize your SEO title: Make sure your SEO title is concise, relevant, and accurately represents the content of your post. This helps convey to Google the importance of your chosen title.
  2. Use a proper HTML title tag: Ensure that you have a proper HTML title tag in the <head> section of your web page's source code. This tag should contain your desired SEO title and accurately reflect the content of the page.
  3. Avoid duplicate titles: Google may change the SEO title if it detects duplicate titles across multiple pages. Ensure that each page on your website has a unique and descriptive SEO title.
  4. Follow Google's guidelines: Adhere to Google's guidelines for creating SEO-friendly titles. This includes avoiding keyword stuffing, using natural language, and providing a clear indication of the content on the page.
  5. Monitor and analyze: Regularly monitor your website's performance in Google search results. If you notice that Google is consistently changing your SEO title, analyze the changes and try to understand the reasons behind them. This can help you make adjustments and improvements.
It's important to note that while you can take steps to optimize your SEO title, Google may still make changes based on its algorithm and user experience considerations. Google aims to provide the best possible search experience for users, so sometimes it may modify titles to improve relevance or readability.

By following best practices, creating high-quality content, and providing clear and descriptive titles, you can increase the chances of Google displaying your preferred SEO title in search results.

To ensure Google consistently uses the SEO titles you set up, follow these steps:

1. Verify implementation: Check that you have properly implemented SEO titles using Rankmath or other SEO plugins.

2. Optimize HTML tags: Ensure you use the appropriate HTML tags, like the <title> tag, for SEO titles.

3. Resolve conflicts: Check for conflicting title tags or other HTML tags that may override your SEO titles.

4. Submit sitemap: Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console to help Google discover and crawl your site.

5. Monitor crawl errors: Regularly check Google Search Console for crawl errors affecting SEO titles.

6. Align content: Ensure your page content aligns with the SEO titles to improve relevance.

7. Be patient: It may take time for Google to update and display your desired SEO titles consistently. Monitor search results regularly.

One possible solution is to check if your SEO plugin has the option to override the default header tags.
Make sure that you have configured your SEO settings correctly and set the correct SEO headers. Also, make sure that your SEO plugin is compatible with your site's theme. If the problem doesn't go away, you may need to contact your SEO plugin support team for further assistance.
