I just bought a new unmanaged VPS. I'm pretty savvy technically, I just need a nice lil guide to show me what I need to do to get things going.

Anyone know of a website, or an ebook that will help me learn what I need to know to set up remote desktop/web sites/email etc.?

    Thanks.

There is no difference between a VPS and a regular server so you just need to learn linux. VPSes are actually easier to work with because if you screw things up you can restore them back to new condition with one click.

I recommand using something like Plesk. Just setup a fresh debian install on your VPS and afterwards use the plesk-installer from the commandline to setup your whole server. Using plesk for your first domainname is free. You can get plesk licenses cheap from most hosting providers.

    http://download1.parallels.com/Plesk/PPP9/plesk-9.0.0-for-deb-based-os.html#23

Be sure to use debain 4.0

This way im paying only 9.95 Euro a month at hostineuro.com and i have a top notch VPS server with control panel etc. Really 100 times better then shared hosting.

...great but also expensive, for most VPS you have to extra buy it because its not included....
