in case you're not already doing this :

    1) Set up google authorship containing your main keywords/topics. Set up as many other social media profiles with the same keyword/topics. Link them all together. If you don't know how search google authorship method on this forum.

    2) Interlink all your articles between each other wikipedia style. Takes a shitload of time but is incredibly powerful when done well.

    3) Send a couple high PR links to the homepage from a blog network of yours (if not already done). That'll give your site some authority and credibility.

    4) If they are just text articles, add 2-3 pictures per article with keyword related alternate text (don't abuse this, make it look natural)

    5) Add a couple youtube videos here and there, add a couple related contextual links to authority sites here and there (yeah you're leaking page rank, so what).

Target really super niche longtails, I guess. Fewer backlinks required to be successful, but still relevant traffic (especially for that article)

Try leveraging all the content. If they are interesting, submit them to reddit, make PDFs out of them, make text-to-audio files and share them on social networks...

Other then that, syndicate them to social media sites and then market those profiles. If the content is good, people will share and you will rank. If not, then you probably have no place in the top of serps anyhow.

The goal here is to get your entire site crawled, and then to build authority. Here's what I'd do (based on experience):

    1. Submit your site to some RSS directories to ensure that Google finds your new articles as quickly as possible.

    2. Set up multiple Twitter accounts. Sync them up with your site using a free service like Twitterfeed to automatically Tweet out links to your new articles.

    3. Focus on building some high quality, high PR links to your site (mostly homepage). As you build up pagerank, your articles will have the tendency to naturally rank for keywords/phrases in the article titles and URLs.

    That's it, really.

If your article directory is being run by wordpress what you can do is copy the ping list from pingler.com and start building links to the various categories in your article directory. In time you're going to find your articles being indexed rather quickly.
