    Anybody know how to send an automated phone call to all the numbers in the white pages?

    I'd llike to sell some weight loss items. Is there a nice black hat way of scraping white page numbers, then calling them all with an automated message? I've got free long distance calling as well, so Im about ready to go. Just need some hints on scraping, and messaging.

    Umm, if you are in the US, this is basically illegal. The FTC and FCC doesn't look kindly on this.

    Excerpt from the FCC's site:

    Calls using artificial or prerecorded voice messages ? including those that do not use autodialers ? may not be made to home phone numbers except for:

    • emergency calls needed to ensure the consumer?s health and safety;
    • calls for which you have given prior express consent;
    • non-commercial calls;
    • calls that don?t include or introduce any unsolicited advertisements or constitute telephone solicitations;
    • calls by, or on behalf of, tax-exempt non-profit organizations; or
    • calls from entities with which you have an EBR.

    Robocallers can be liable for penalties of $16,000 per illegal automated call to a cell phone, the FCC said.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1

    o wow,

    What about just cold calling a random list of white page numbers? It would still be solicitation, but I would be calling in person. Is that legitimate?

    The National Do Not Call Registry (NDNCR) list (roughly 200 million numbers) and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act severally limit you from making calls.

    You can not call anyone on the NDNCR list unless:
    1.You have a former business relationship with them or expressed agreement in writing
    2. Work for a charity or on the behalf of a charity
    3. Are calling for a political candidate.
    4. Are conducting a survey.

    If your call does not meet this criteria, and you make a call to someone on NDNCR and they report you. You could be subjected to a fine of up to $16,000 for each call from the FFC. Additionally, a person you call can sue you in small claims court and most likely will win.

    You can google the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and get a run down of what you can and can't do.

    While most people who would receive your call would say no and hang up, you might be unlucky and get a couple of people who report you to the FCC. I would have to think the financial risk out weigh the financial reward.

    Long story short. I personally would not attempt to do this and think there are better ways to market a product or service.

    Robo dialers are best for calling businesses. I understand the rules for calling businesses are less regulated and most businesses are not on the DNC list. Do your research.
