This client is about to get fired. He says he can't find a WP theme that he likes, despite looking at "hundreds". He's a local business in a particular niche (lets say landscaping).

I'd like to be able to have him look at a bunch of WP sites that are actually being used in his particular niche, so that maybe he'll find one he likes in another city, we'll figure out which theme it is, get that theme and modify it according to what he wants.

Does anyone know of a crafty way to specify a Google search of just WP sites in a particular niche?

Why not create a mock up for the client? Then convert it into WP theme, that way your client will feel special and he will have a unique WP Theme..instead of bunch of themes online, just saying.. ;)

There's a bunch of other footprints that can be used for those that have removed the footer; search "scrapebox footprints" to your left.

Also he'll probably run you in circles forever if you just have him searching. I would find no more than 5 or 10 'premium' themes and just have him choose from those. Create a few mockups of the favorites to help him make up his mind.

How do you convert a custom site to a WP theme? He wants to code his own. I don't want to try to SEO a site that isn't WP. Is it possible to code a site and then somehow "wordpress it" ?

You need to take control of the situation.

Have him draw out what he wants so you aren't chasing ghosts., then find 6 themes along that line. Mock up them, and if he cannot make up his mind, just tell hm you will pick the best one for SEO and go with it, or bring in a designer and developer to build what he wants. As soon as he finds out how much that will cost, he should be a little more manageable.

This is business, either he makes a decision, accepts the judgement of the professional he hired, or foots the bill for custom work.

If he cant live with this, do yourself a favor, dump him, even if that means a refund.

You will never make him happy because he doesn't know what he wants and doesn't trust you to tell him what he needs..

I just sent him a list of links to local businesses in his niche that are running WP themes. Told him on the phone today that if he couldn't find a WP site that he could live with, we wouldn't be working together. Next time he gives me any trouble, I'm going to fire him. Thought this all out today, several times. Enough times so that I am certain there is only one way this road is going to go and that is MY WAY.

There are two unforgivable sins when dealing with me. They are 1) a fundamental lack of respect for my obvious skills and 2) ingratitude when I take time & energy away from my own life's pursuits and give them as a gift to someone else with no benefit to myself.

He's violated both of these, and I cannot envision a future that includes working with him. So the plan is to wait. Right now his tail is hiked up high between his legs because I kicked him square in the butthole with the pointy toe of my cowboy boot, but this kind of dog has a short memory span and as soon as his asshole stops hurting, I know he will go back to his old ways, and when he does, I'm going to fire him, right then and right there.

Why WordPress? He can look at those CSS showcase websites and when he likes something then you design it. Simple.

If you want to search for only Wordpress powered sites, scrapebox can do that.

That's easy, hire a designer to create a mock up. If the client liked it, hire a coder to convert it into WP. No work for you, less headache and pain in the neck for both of you and your client. You're the middle man, and you get all the profit ;)

If you offer him too much he can just take it and leave you. As already mentioned, use Scrapebox to find WP for a given Keyword.

Yes first talk to client decide him to give you 2-3 samples then you can find out like that or design it separately.

I'm an SEO, not a website designer. I know how to do onpage/onsite optimization for WordPress, and not anything else. The price I quoted was low, and was based on my creating a very basic WordPress site that wiould allow me to use all the simple, Plug & Play plugins, Google Analytics, Google Maps, Rich Snippets, SEO for WordPress, etc...

There won't be any "hiring someone else to do it". This is a low budget deal I'm taking a guy that has nothing, and I'm giving a highly effective something for a very low price, and the dumbass is too stupid to recognize what he's got when it's standing right in front of him, jumping up & down and waving his arms.

I'm not interested in working with a web designer or anyone else. He give me money. I work on a website. His phone starts ringing and then he starts making money.

Very simple. Too simple for this dumbass. Primary lesson here: There is usually a reason why a presumably intelligent middle-aged man is complete loser, despite having some technical skills in his trade and the ability to sell. There's a sort of "death wish" with this guy, an irresistible need to take a simple path to success and fuck it up to the point that success becomes impossible. And the only thing that I can do is to go down that road to failure with him.

Sorry, nope. Learned all those lessons and have been down that road already. Haven't heard from him today. I think his butthole still hurts.
