Yes... SEMRush is the bomb. It's worth the thousands of dollars per year it costs. But you can get trapped by looking at all the numbers and factors and forget about content... So be aware.

SemRush is the easiest way, at least for me, and it won't break the bank.
There are sellers in the marketplace selling 30-day accounts at relatively low prices.
You have the option to filter by KD, CPC, and Volume... It's an amazing tool.

You should go on google search bar, simply write, for example " Technology sub niches" you can get best results for low competition key words

Use keywords everywhere chrome extension and search for a short tail keyword. From the suggestions bar, you can filter down to more and more long-tail low competitive keywords.

You can find low competition keywords in the Google Ads Keyword Planner. Take there low competition with good volume, but don't take high volume, you need long tail keywords.

The actual process i would recommend is pretty time consuming, plus deserves a lot of manual digging into the niche and sub niche. But here is a shortcut.
  1. Find a keyword with 500+ search volume that has at least 5 words and an informative intent to it(how, what, do, does, vs, or, troubleshooting, etc)
  2. Mark the root words from the string. For example the root words from "how to stop sunroof from leaking" are "how", "stop", "sunroof". You can also pick other combo of root keywords from the same parent keywords.
  3. Search on Ahrefs keyword explorer or SEMrush keyword magic tool.
  4. Collect the partial match terms.
  5. Search on Keyword Chef. this will show you the slots(i.e. forums, weak content sites, UGC sites, etc)
  6. Cluster the keywords and write articles on it.
This method had been working since 2018 and hope will be working in future as well.

Yes.. It's 3k for one year if you buy whitehat.. But they sometimes offer 10 percent off for yearly promotion or for military discount.. But it's worth it for what you can find!

How to search for low competition keywords in any niche?
  1. Method 1: Using Google SERPs to Reverse Engineer Results.
  2. Method 2: Using Keyword Software to Target Specific Topics.
  3. Method 3: Looking at Competitors to Find HV/LCK Keywords.
if you were looking for low-competition transactional keywords, here's how you'd do it:
  1. Enter your seed keywords.
  2. Choose the “Phrase match” keyword ideas report.
  3. Filter for low-competition keywords with the KD filter (KD < 10)
  4. Add words like “buy” and “cheap” to the “Include” filter.
