    Hey Guys,

I'm making this post because I've received a lot of questions regarding if you should use a landing page or direct link to an offer or your offer. I feel there is a lot of confusion of what a landing pages purpose is.

We have two uses for Landing Pages:

    1. Pre-Sell the visitor on the offer
    2. Gain data insights

Now, I will use the 1st sometimes, but the reason I use Landing pages is to install tacking codes, pixels, and conversion pixels that tell me very specific things about my campaign.

    I learn:

    • what banner is sending converting traffic?
    • what site is sending converting traffic?
    • what banner + site combination has the highest CVR?
    • I gain a remarketing list

When I say converting traffic, this means actionable traffic. They read the LP and took action by clicking through. So now with my newly gained data I can go at my campaign again. Perhaps this time, marketing to my remarket list without the LP and instead the direct link. Or perhaps negotiating a direct buy with a banner + site combination using a direct link.

We use LPs to gain knowledge.... yes they are useful to presell, but my main purpose is the data.

    Questions?

Quite straight-forward post. You say that there are three uses for a landing page but only mention two. What´s the third one? Keep this kind of posts coming- there are people out there who are reading each one of them:p

    Cheers,

    @shout,

Thanks for the comments, I fixed the OP, the third was going to be remarketing data, but I just combined that into the 2nd option.

LP's are for mainly pre-selling the offer.
Most offers simply won't convert without an LP or will convert significantly less without an LP.
I don't even understand how people direct linking as an option.
Especially for media buying where most offers require the visitors to take out a credit card.

Going to disagree.... one purpose for an LP is to pre-sell yes I agree with that, but if you know enough data you can use your remarketing list to certainly direct link even with a CC offer...

I see you promote clickbank products so our situations may be different.
How many mb campaigns have you been doing?
It's almost a fact, whether you use a list or not, that an LP is a must for a credit card CPA offer. Even for the most targeted list.

It all comes down to what the KPI of the media campaign is. I've done campaigns for CB, CPA (freebies, lead gen, and CC submit), and custom solutions with my own products and/or my clients.

I couldn't even count them, right now I have 34 simultaneous campaigns going on and that is this week.

You make my own point, when you state It's almost a fact...

There is no opinion in this business... the data represents the facts, and to agree to disagree both methods need to be tested regardless as there will always be a percentage drop rate on the LP.

Look up Ouchthathurt's media campaign here , to pull a quote from his thread "Overall I have spent $2,282 advertising and earned $4,130 in sales which gives me an ROI of 81.0% profit $1,848."

He did this with direct linking, and tried to use a LP/squeeze page, but saw the DL did better....

yeah, I am sure whether direct linking or using LP will generate various results.
not always "CC pulling" offers will need LP, I have CC offer campaigns in the past which DL has better results (higher ROI). There are many factors why DL can be better. If the offer LP is really good to warm up the visitor, it has done the job, no need to messed up the visitor with our own LP. The exception is like the wasted said the purpose of using own LP is to "gain knowledge".

Maybe OP can give us more insight how we use generated data from LP for making new retargeting campaign? How the knowledge data gained will be useful for the next campaign? An example or case study for this will be very helpful

    Thank you!

Great post wasted.. I've been looking for this question..

What do you use to track / rotate landing pages..
Is there a package that can test a/b multivariate and
see what combos work best in regards to LP variations +
creative clicked on and site it was clicked on, and show what
the best combo was ROI / Conversions? Much Appreciated..

If anyone else has any suggestions, please I hope to hear
    your input!

Definitely a good read. Although he does test different LP's, the main point that I got from that article is that you should keep testing the water to see which offer/ad works the best.

The best realization (which popped into my mind) was that we can use his tactics towards FB and Twitter as well. :)
