The article which I want to rank on is on my website and I call that as main article. I made some tire 1 articles on different blogging platforms like wordpress, tumblr and so on. But those articles didn't proved helpful and none of them served as a backlink.

So what should I do, so that those articles would actually serve as backlinks? And how many tire 1 articles should I upload for a main article so that Google will not get to know, that it is all done to rank that particular article on my website.

If I understand you correctly, you now need to look for some tier two links? That is, some pages to link to your tier one pages to pass some juice onto them (and probably help get them indexed, if they haven't already).

social bookmarks are good to rank tier 1 links, if not then get tier 2 or 3 as sitestem suggested.

well, the number of url that you for tier 1 depends on how competitive is your keyword. If you are using quality articles to your tier 1 then that should definitely give you some boost. When you say "but those articles didn't proved helpful and none of them served as a backlink" that means your tier 1 URLS are not indexed yet. Use social bookmarks to index your tier 1 links and once they are indexed you can see the backlinks
