If I want to rank an image higher, let's assume that the page is perfectly optimized already, should I blast links to the page or to the JPEG file?

I donĀ“t think this will be any diffrence, use the /picture link if you want to boost more than one picture at the same time

Both as this will increase the images exposure and will allow it to show up multiple times in the SERPs

As far as I understand, backlinks to pictures are treated the same as backlinks to pages. So if you were to shoot some 800 bl to the picture, it'd be ranked higher than other photos in the google image search. The more interesting question, is what if you shoot 800 bl to the page, what happens to the bl?

I have a few pictures that are ranked high on my network for stuff like computer, or desert. Only the pages are optimized and I've never seen the photos linked too. Probably the best bet would be for the page to receive the links rather than the image. Of course, all IMO.

Thanks, Can you also tell what is the best way to optimize any image before making it ready for backlink blast. Let's say, I have some images right now on my wordpress website. How to optimize that before a blast.

No way to really optimize them besides naming the files with the keywords that you want them to rank for and to make them load reasonably quickly.
