Always start with optimizing onpage seo. Get your kw in the page title, description, heading tag, and page content. Link internal pages properly for ease of navigation throughout your site.

Create a matching; blogger, twitter, Google+, and facebook page
Write short posts on blogger with links to your main site.
Promote all your posts and pages on; twitter, Google+ and facebook.
Do some link building to all of these domains or get someone to do it for you.

New post on the main site - Tweet, G+, fb
New post on the blog - Tweet, G+ fb
    New links (lots of them)

Do this over and over and you can win top spots on many keywords.

I suggest you to target few main keywords and few long tail keywords. [Don't Build all links using 1 or 2 keywords only]

Then build mix kind of links from Web2.0/Bookmarks/Profiles/Wikis/Article submission etc.

Social signals will help your site for sure...

I think of SEO like this... If I was just a guy/girl and I had one site/business with a few keywords and didn't know anything about SEO what would I do to promote my site?

    1. I would have someone help me make my site look good, so customers would like it and it was something I could be proud of.
    2. I would add new content to the site all the time, because I have a lot to say and I am my business's biggest fan.
    3. I would have some "not quite business worthy information" that I would want to share but don't want it on the main site so I would open a blog on blogger (Google owns blogger and loves all their stuff - use it, it works.)
    4. Everyone who is anyone has a Twitter account, so I would get one of those and start using it. I would spend some time in there making it match my site. (Google also loves Twitter - I have not verified this but I heard that Google gets a direct feed from Twitter in real time)
    5. Everyone who is anyone has a facebook page, so I would get one of them and spend some time making it look good and collect some likes from my friends
    6. Google has been pushing their Google+ down our throat so I would get one of those and also make it look good and collect some followers

Now I have all the pieces in place (keep in mind I don't know what I am doing as far as SEO goes) I would start "pushing the button"

    1. Post on the main site - promote the new post on T,FB,G+
    2. Post on the blog - promote the new post on T,FB,G+
    3. Repete

Now imaging that the site had really compelling content or a crazy good product/service...

Customers will start visiting the site and connecting with it through the social media sites...
People will start following the tweets and fb posts to the posts on the site and on Blogger
People will start retweeting and forwarding on FB and Following on G+
People will also start mentioning the site on their sites/blog/tweets/fbp/G+

This will create links to all of these moving parts from all sorts of places with a wide mix of keywords (remember this is not SEO - this is just actual real world response to a great site/service/product...) It takes a long time to happen and it only happens if you have something worth while and is well promoted.

Now SEO for a new site or for a client...
I just create all this without the actual people to slow me down. In other words - I do everything that would happen naturally if I had a viral site.
    I build everything listed above
I collect my own "likes" on facebook
I collect my own followers in Twitter
I find my own people to friend my on Google+
I post to the site and to the blog and I promote my posts on Twitter, facebook, and Google+
I also run SEnukeXCr like a devil and create tens of thousands of links to the main domain and all the support domains
I then run all my new URLs through an Indexer to make sure they get picked up by Google.

The higher the value of the account the more activity that account gets. Low priority one post a week/month. Higher priority one post every day/every other day. In the past I used a lot of automation to post and tweet, but I have found that just pounding it out by hand is more effective.

The overriding principle is to make it look exactly like a real world internet success story.

To much too fast - crash and burn
To little to slow - not much reaction on the SERPs
To much automation - Google will pick up on a pattern and will spank you
Too many of the same kind of links - spanking.

That's how I do it. It's rocket science it's just good SEO.

you are asking the million dollar question. if you have money to spare, go to the buy/sell section and buy a backlink package and have that part outsourced for you. doing backlinking yourself will give u a big headache. i finally learned this a few months ago. now i outsource all backlinking and i even outsource some article writing as well to make it easier for me.
