How to rank higher in Google Maps?

In Google I enter this keyword "transportation services + my city". In Google Map results I see 3 companies that have less reviews and a bit higher rating (5.0 and 4.8. We have 4.6) But our company has more total reviews (that have <100 and we have >140).
So does that mean that if I get higher rating in Google - I'll get higher and be shown on the first quick result?

Please advise me on how to get higher rankings in Google Maps, please :)

P.S. We have that main keyword in the name of the company in GMB.

the idea of optimizing relevance and prominence, I've found that geotagged photos can give a noticeable visibility bump, but it's the consistency of GBP posts that really moves the needle. In a test on 15 local businesses, those with regular weekly posts saw a 25% increase in Google Maps visibility over 12 weeks, while those with sporadic posting saw only a 5% increase. Additionally, using a mix of geotagged photos and videos in posts can increase engagement by up to 30%. One business I worked with saw a 50% increase in Maps visibility after implementing a consistent posting schedule and including relevant keywords in their post descriptions.

I've used all of this. Nothing has changed

Ranking isn't just about the score your 4.6 rating is already strong enough to compete, competitors often rank higher simply because they are physically closer to the customer or have newer reviews.
To move up, focus on getting steady, fresh feedback that mentions your specific services in the text, google rewards activity, so adding new photos and replying to customers matters more than just having the highest number of reviews.

Going from 4.6 to 4.8 won’t suddenly flip a switch and move you to the top. Google Maps isn’t a highest rating wins system. If it were, every 5.0 business with 20 reviews would dominate.
When someone ranks above you, it’s usually because of:
  • Category setup (this is huge)
  • How close they are to the searcher
  • How well their services match the exact query
  • Overall profile strength and activity
  • Website authority
Also remember ,maps results change depending on where the person is searching from. You might see them above you from one location, but not from another.
If I were you, I’d start by double checking your primary category and make sure it’s the most specific and accurate version of what you actually do. Then I’d focus on getting reviews consistently each month instead of in random bursts. I’d also take a close look at how your competitors have structured their categories and listed their services, because that often makes a bigger difference than people think. On top of that, I’d strengthen your website pages so they’re clearly optimized around “transportation services + city” to reinforce your relevance.

Rating alone wont push you to top. Google Maps looks at relevance distance and activity too.
Improve categories add fresh photos get steady new reviews and build local citations.

1) exact Match business name rank easily (kind of blackhat methods )
2) Brand Business and partially match Business name Rank with consistent Review , fully optimized GBP , website that align with GBP , local and niche backlinks and citations , strong social profile ,

to rank higher on Google Maps, fully optimize your Google Business Profile (GBP),
focusing on relevance, distance, and prominence. Key actions include ensuring
NAP (Name, Address, Phone) consistency across the web, encouraging frequent
reviews, using relevant keywords, and posting regular updates

Highest rating alone won't guarantee top spot. Proximity, categories, consistent reviews, and profile activity all matter. Keep getting steady reviews and make sure your listing is fully optimized.
