Five years ago I purchased a dozen EMDs (Exact Match Domains) for affiliate marketing purposes. I developed two and they did gangbusters on the Big G until 2012 when they got hit for over-optimzation of inbound links due to the fact that most of my links were for the exact match term, which of course was the name of my website and business. I'd now like to develop the other 10 EMDs and am wondering what other EMD owners are doing to rank on the Big G for the exact match term in their domain. What works for you guys? Lets say my EMD is BlueHats_dot_org. My first thoughts were to get the majority of my inbound links for Blue Hats Inc. or Blue Hats Corporation or maybe just BlueHats_dot_org. I would then sprinkle in no more than 10% of my links with the keyword "Blue Hats" in order to rank for "Blue Hats". What are your thoughts? Would that work? Would that keep me from being sent to the nether regions of Google for over-optimizing? What's working for all you other EMD owners out there? Or is it better to simply sell those EMDs to someone else and go with a brand-able domain that I can rank for "Blue Hats" such as "BlueHatters" or "MuyBlue"? Looking forward to your feedback.
