Hey Guys, It's been some time since I've added another contribution to this section as I've been working in the new Media Buying section of the forum. This is an effective, really simple method to increase your revenue from your current clientele be it SEO, web development, consulting, etc. The Method: Sell Premium Advertising Space to Local Business's. The concept is to sell advertising to your current clientele. I know... nothing new or crazy, but let me position the method in a role playing example. You: Hey, John, it's Steve your web guy. John: Hey Steve, how have you been? You: Pretty good. How has the site been working for you, and problems? John: No Steve, it's great, orders are coming in and everything is really easy to use. What can i help you with? You: Well John, I was just wondering what you have been doing with your advertising lately because just recently I have a connection over at New York Times, and they are giving me a limited time ad space on the homepage of their site. John: Interesting.... You: Yea it is really exciting, we have also made connections with NY Post, CBS news, Fox News, and CNN. John: Wow, do you think this would be good for my business? You: Well it's not the cheapest ad space. What I wanted to recommend was a small test run. We can track all the visitors that click on an ad and see how they are buying anything on the site. John: How much is a test run? You: What if we place an ad on NYtimes, NYPost, CBS News, Fox News, and CNN all at once, we'll test the performance of each place, and we'll be able to do this with $5,000. John: You can get on all of these with just $5,000? You: Yes, but I only have the spot for a limited time. You: John, are you by a computer. John: Yes You: Go to www.cnn.com, imagine your business being published to every New York that visits CNN. The exposure for your business is going to be huge. It beats all those flyers you are doing right now. John: I see your point, but what is in it for you? You: To manage the buy, execute, and then optimize we charge 20%. John: optimize? You: Yes, see, we'll create about 10 banner ads for your business and place these on all 6 sites. They will rotate and we'll see which ones are converting the best for your traffic. We optimize by removing the bad ads and keep the good ones. John: I get it. This is interesting... blah blah blah You see the idea? The execution is rather simple, you charge 20% to have the banners created, place the ad, optimize, and report the results. This is what we call an agency fee. The majority of all premium publishers now participate in Real Time Bidding and Demand Side Platforms. For example, Fox News and CBS News can be found in www.sitescout.com, you can also find local stations, radio stations, etc. The idea is to excite them with publishers that they know about or can brag about. I have found that every business owner likes to brag sometimes, this is something they can share with family and friends. Did you see my ad on CNN? How do I get $1,000..... 20% of $5,000 = $1,000 The reason I'm writing this post is that recently I was helping a friend who runs a web development company. His business has slowed down as he has not stirred up any new business in some time. We went through his 30 local business clients and close 6 of them on the ad space for a total of $8,000 in revenue and close to $27,000 in media spend. With this we are able to rotate all the business's their banners, track them, all at the same time. Try to throw the bait out there.... see how excited your clients get.
