I had a short stint writing adult strokers (wrote 2 short stories to be exact) and distributed them via the major distributors (smashwords, amazon, B&N, etc.) and made a few sales. They started cracking down on some of that adult content on some distribution platforms though but if you're a decent writer and are attuned to popular niches, not necessarily adult, it might be a fun little project. But it takes a little bit of work to format it appropriately and make a good cover (used iStockPhoto for $5 cover images as I recall and dressed them up appropriately in photoshop) but of course you could outsource that. My books were 3500 words each. Calibre was the program I used that helped verify the final formatting. It was kind of fun but I like writing and have a solid background. People tended to publish serial-style series.
