It could be very dangerous if people hide such pbns from seo tools. Then people wonder why their sites got a penalty. Very scary.

I had similar problems for a long period and didn't liked this article.
First of all Ahrefs isn't enough for discover bad links, cause most of them are hidden Search console will help you with this!
Second BIG Wrong tip is using the disavow tool. When i was hit by negative seo i tried to select all bad domains and use 1 disavow tool. Result? Site died!! Tried also on other sites with same problem and the result was the same.
The only way to protect yourself from negative seo is working on your domain authority! amore powerful domain are immune to negative links. How i know? A lot of people sending millions of links to facebook fanpages, blogspot blogs and other parasites.. and main domain never got hit by these links. Obviously you can't get authority like this giant, but still you can work until your site is trusted enough from google!
Also, negative seo actually is much more smarter than past.. imagine someone linking your site for the keyword you try to rank instead of usual bullshit porn keywords!! You will get 100-1000-100000-1000000 backlinks for your main keyword!! This can kill your website! And believe me, this happens!
Also, i noted that a lot of spammer using a new way for negative seo: they send you a lot of fake traffic with 0 seconds stay and 100% bounce rate!! But usually this kind of traffic is send from countries that you don't need for your traffic, so you can block traffic from these countries and allow only countries you really need!
At the end lf story, the only WORKING way to protect yourself from negative seo is working hardly on Domain Authority!

That's impossible to know.. i don't talk about DA or DR or TF.. i talk about how google see your site.
Generally 1 year old domain with great backlinks history (strong own pbn + some nice backlinks that looks like natural..) can be immune to negative seo.. (for me)

And it can be tempting to do negative SEO from time to time but then you remember if you're outranked that if you're busy sitting on your ass playing ps4, your competitor might be working twice as hard to get his children nicer Christmas presents or saving up for their wedding or something and it doesn't feel right
