michael cheney is guilty too, hes english, im half english so he offends me :P

lol and i thought it is pronounced as ni-che

english is not my main language :p

just say PORN, we all know that is what you mean anyway hahaha

Common usage rule.

Language isn't set in stone, jackass. It's a tool for communication. If the majority decides it's pronounced "nitch", that's how it's pronounced in that region.

If we decide it's pronounced "allahohakbar" tommorrow, that's what it is.

I live in a southern hick town, so I have an obligation to say every word wrong. I say okry, envelep, coke intead of soda, tater tots, ain't, gonna, tons of contractions that don't exist, and tons of stuff I say wrong that I don't realize. You can just get over it. Don't you have anything else to worry about?

Oh yea, it's pronounced nitch. Why? Because I said so.

The word "niche" is derived from the Middle French word nicher, meaning to nest. The term was coined by the naturalist Joseph Grinnell in 1917, in his paper "The niche relationships of the California Thrasher

It is pronounced either of two ways:

It is okay to pronounce it as "NEESH" (French pronunciation)

- OR -

It is okay to pronounce it "NITCH" (Americanized pronunciation)

To pronounce it "NEETCH" is completely wrong, though some people do pronounce it that way.

I'm an American and proud of it. I've always pronounced it NITCH and will continue to do so...so bite me...lol

To winterraven:

Of course Websters would say NITCH. It's Webster's AMERICAN dictionary. They will of course give you the Americanized pronunciation.

I'd rather pronounced it as NITCH, like the golden yellow ball a.k.a. Golden Snitch in Harry Potters' movie. :D

Neesh and im from UK Nitch sounds silly to me hehe you Americans sound funny fullstop :p

It's pronounced nitch. I'm annoyed when people pronounce it neesh. My whole life everyone around me and I have pronounced it nitch so it has to be right. Everyone else including the French are wrong. Everyone knows real English comes from the US, we borrowed it from the British at the beginning, but it's ours now.
