I am able to get a job to promote a companies website, but how exactly would I do this? Just Adwords? What should I do for this job

Is this a huge Fortune 500 company or a local business?

Local business

Local SEO then. Some people like to use AdWords but I don't have any experience with PPC.

- Get them listed in business directories.
- Press releases work well.
- Target keywords with the city and state in which the business resides in.

http://www.localseoguide.com/local-search-ranking-factors-2012/ - Just to start you off. Google around some more and you'll find many "how to" articles pertaining to local SEO.

So you managed to get a job for doing something you have no idea how to do ?
This world gets crazier each day...

Anyway on to your question, here are a few ideas to get you on tracks:
- Adwords: yeah sure, but don't forget each click costs money - and for a local business the potential is not that huge as you will only target a small area (no point in advertising a local business to internet users that are hundreds of miles away)
- Google+ Local (formerly Google Places): if the page isn't made yet, make it, fill it, optimize it, rank it.
- SEO: if you know how to do it and/or have the tools, try to rank the site for local keywords (i.e. "product your_city" etc.)
- SMO/ORM: make a facebook page, twitter account, google+ etc., and engage with the community. Grow your accounts with the current clients base, and try to refer more local people with facebook ppc (targeting your city + target demographic), events, special offers and viral marketing campaigns.
- Press release: when the company releases a new product/service or get involved in any event, or anything that would be worth writing a story about to spread the world, get a PR distributed -> tons of traffic and reputation.

Alright that's what I came up with in 2 minutes, these ideas can already keep you busy for a while, and you'll sure find other ideas to add to these ;)

To the great post of Zak_A above I would add:

Local Guest Blogging - find local bloggers that will post an unique article about that business.
Facebook ads - a great way to promote your business facebook page and also products or services.
Create a company blog - if they don't have an official company blog, write interesting stuff about the company/services/products/team buidling/news in the niche etc.

Hope this helps :D

Thanks for the ideas! Do any of you know what a good price to charge for this would be?

How much do they get per sale? How much sales can you get them by promoting their website?

Answer to your question is hiding there. ;)

They offer a service, any individual client would pay $5000-$10000. If a business ordered their service it would probably be much more

I also recommend that you do some email marketing. If you're new to this, Copyblogger have some really good tips that should get you started: http://www.copyblogger.com/email-marketing/.

I agree Pinterest could be a good place to advertise, as most users - by far - here are women (I'm just guessing that your main customer segment is women?).

When you say that you advertise on Google, do you mean you are doing PPC as well organic SEO? Anyway, you should be doing both.

Not sure if I would go the email route. It looks like he doesn't know what he's doing (no offense) and not doing an email marketing campaign properly can lead to a lot of problems, among them would be labeling the company as a source of spam and if their email address and domain somehow get connected to this spam it could lead to further problems down the road like clients wouldn't receive emails from them as it would be labeled as spam/junk.

If you go the SEO route make sure that you only link from places you can actually control, don't wanna be linking from porn sites and stuff like that now do we :)

I know what I'm doing related to SEO :) I have four sites that I'm working on right now, and the first one that I ever made is currently making over $100 on auto-pilot per month. Now I'm just creating more of these sites to multiply my monthly income.

I just needed advice on other methods of promoting a company website.

LOL, fake it til you make it. Either way good for him...thats how sometimes the best come out. Ill be honest I did it similiar. Why work for something unless you have clients. I knew a good deal but yeah I took it to the next level when I had a cash flow coming in and had to return the customers roi...sadly I did it so well I should have charged 5X more. LOL
