I am going to be working on a client's site soon. Now the problem is, once they rank, they will have no reason to keep me, they will get rid of me.
How do you get more control over your client's rankings, so they cant just fire you?
Does it work if I get my own domain, build links to that, and 301 redirect to client's site? if they fire me, I can just turn off the 301 and their website will plummet in the SERPS?
if not, then what else can I do so they cant just get rid of me and maintain their rankings?

    301 redirects

You redirect them to their competitor

if you are a brand - 100% upfront payment
if not - then pay as you go..
take 10% upfront - rank 1 term and take more payment.. like a contract basis or something..

my problem is not payment. even if I require 100% upfront, lets say after 6 months they rank. then they have no reason to keep me. They already rank.
I want clients to need me forever. meaning, if they get rid of me, i want to be able to undo my seo. If i had my own private network, this would be so easy, I would just delete their links. but unfortunately I dont have the resources to build a private network at this time.
Would my 301 idea work? if not, why not?

well just tell them that in SEO, positions have to be maintained because their competitors are building links everyday to try and take over their company. its true, being #1-2-3 also requires work to stay at those positions.

if they fire you, just build links with porn/viagra anchors to their site. Also you can build another website criticizing them and then rank that website on top of theirs.

SEO is a service which is needed 365 days per year now, Even if you rank them POS.1 then they stop using your services. They will soon start dropping down the ranks then will be on your doorstep asking for your services again.

The point is that make the customer like you, and make it so it's hard to change their decision. The price should also be considerable, sometimes price is the dominant factor in decision making for a lot of people.

    My methods :
    1. Tell them that the links you provided are rented, so a monthly fee is necessary.
    2. Tell them that Google updates will continue to roll every year, and continuing changes, tweaks, and updates will be necessary, on the pain of getting a penalty.
    3. Tell them you are willing to negotiate a price. We must understand that both parties are looking up for profit, sometimes some price reduction is necessary to keep the client. If you want them on a long-term basis, don't charge them exorbitant price (like charging them $ 5000/month, but make the price easy to pay on them, but good enough for you). Don't be greedy.
    4. Make sure that you are giving out great results, and willing to give extras here and there.

If your client thinks that once they hit the top that is it and they can fk you off, quite simply, you have not sold your service correctly.

Instead of thinking of ways to keep getting money from them using quite unethical ways, why not try working on customer trust and relationship? If you are providing services that are good enough for them, regardless of clients coming and going, you'll never run out of clients. They might even refer you to other clients if they are satisfied with your services. And with SEO's ever-changing nature, they will keep coming back if they trust your services. Also, as mentioned above, have a business model where you can provide them services continually, whether it's just to rank new sections, or maintain the current rankings.

seo isn't part time job, if you don't support their website - ranking will go down slowly.
So, monthly fees for support must be, sure, cheaper that seo before top ranking

So if a client hired/paid you and was not satisfied on your seo service... you want to get rid of the links you build which they paid for it ?

that's not a good business man give them a good reason to stay on your seo service that's what decent seo provider do

And he does SEO for other people, LOL. Try doing a job you know something about, you will get further. Or are you simply hoping to buy Fiverr gigs and just hope you rank someones site?

This is why I barely trust anyone online.

Beyond the ethical considerations if you build an implosive network to de-rank them if they stop paying a sudden shock will likely trigger a penalty and it could be months of work to recover and potentially expose your network at the same time.

If you're doing a good job they will probably want to expand their campaign. In general SEO clients have a high turn over rate. They all want to rank as cheap as possible and then leave you once you're no longer needed. They will usually come back, but only after a few months of free ranking.

SEO is an ongoing process, as soon as you stop someone will overtake you, it's as simple as that. When you draw up your contracts be upfront and tell them this. Once they are ranking well in the serps, they then start paying you at the 'maintenance rate' which will ensure there rankings and money that they have just spent, is not wasted.

The above statement is completely out of order, do you want to run a business or do you want to scam people?

If a client decides he wants to leave you after his website hits page #1, then so be it. Part on good terms so that if they need any services again, they'll be likely to return to you. More importantly, they might even throw a few referrals your way.

I feel so bad for the clients you already have and any potential future clients.
You do work for them. They pay you for that work. Taking away the work they paid for because they don't want additional work is scamming.

If I was your Client, I would not think of firing the Person who ranked my Site, Instead i would have sent you some Bonuses.

You're providing a basic service to your clients, so why the hell would you take that service away after they've paid you?

Think about it the other way around:

You're offering them a 6 month campaigns and after these 6 months they can renew it, or leave it.
    • If they renew the contract, you're happy...
    • If they don't renew your contract their ranking position will deteriorate due to the fact that their competitors won't stop just because they did.

So you're basically getting the client back anyway if they were happy with your work. Just make sure to explain at some point that SEO is not a one time business, but requires permanent care.
