Hi, so I have a page on my website that has links that are ranked up for a specific keyword im targeting.

My question is, how do I prevent my page from ranking up for that specific keyword while at the same time maintaining the link juice that the I am getting from w/e links are pointing to that page.

If I were to simply use google webmaster tools to prevent that page from being indexed, i believe i lose the link juice from it....so i am looking for a method that gets around that problem.

this is a unique problem :)...maybe kw stuffing will prevent that page getting good position but im not sure how it will affect other pages on your site

ah ic, ill do some research on it...like u said, this is a more "unique" situation so its hard to find helpful info on the matter

You could always try the opposite of keyword stuffing. Remove the kws from the page, leave just synonyms and related kws.
this is what I've recently done, I'll have to see what happens as a result, but I still had to leave the keyword in a few sections cause I am hyperlinking them onto my main page which i actually do want to rank up

You need to remove the related stuff completely. The anti-google-bomb algorithm makes sure that when a page does not mention the subject at all, it will not rank.

Also you lose topical authority for that subject, so linking to other pages about the subject will lower the effect.

Ah I see. Well before, I mentioned the keyword 7 times. Now, I mention the keyword twice, and both times the text is hyperlinked to the main webpage. So I am hoping to give as much link juice as reasonably possible to the main page while lowering the rank of this other page. Perhaps there might be a better method of doing it though, which is what I'm trying to find out.

It is best handled with a robots.txt file, for just bots that respect the file.

To block the whole site add this to robots.txt in the root directory of your site:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

To limit access to your site for everyone else, .htaccess is better, but you would need to define access rules, by IP address for example.

Below are the .htaccess rules to restrict everyone except your people from your company IP:

Order allow,deny
# Enter your companies IP address here
Allow from 255.1.1.1
Deny from all

He just wants to lower the page relevancy a bit, not block the whole thing. Using robots you'd deindex the page.

Robots.txt blocking does not remove pages from the index if they are already indexed. Big misconception, blocking Googlebot won't remove anything from their index. They won't crawl it, but they won't remove it, too. In addtion, robots.txt blocking blocks link juice flow. If you don't want a page to rank, but let the link juice flow through, "noindex, follow" Robots Meta Tag is the way to go. It will prevent the page to rank at all, selectively it won't work.

Why are you trying to kill rankings of the page? Dont you have any other way of benefiting from the traffic that they bring?

So was, noindex to solve this
so sorry my exmple was wrong....

I mentioned my keyword like 7 times on the page so I reduced it down to 2 and currently waiting to see what happens. I know there's robot.txt stuff I can do but I am not sure about the exact consequences of using it. I want to retain the linkjuice and I've heard that robot.txt will get rid of some if not all of it
