Me and my partner will be launching an online/offline business in the next few months, and we have already bought the domain name. The site will be e-commerce, but we obviously don't have the products for it yet.

Is it possible to power up the domain before we launch it, so it already has some momentum in terms of SEO? There will obviously be no content, so what techniques could we use to give it some strength?

    Thanks

301, or buy a domain that already has good links.

Rank the site like you would any other, not being useful to an end user (i.e you have no products to sell) is no barrier to ranking. I never do the dog work of uploading products/negotiating with suppliers until I'm nearing the top of page 2 anyway because really, what's the point? You can use that time to start 2 other shops which you can also getting ranking while you wait.

301 another site best fits your question.

But what I would do is use a coming soon placeholder and do some seo on the site not the placeholder obviously because you will be whipping it away to reveal the site behind it.

I would couple this with a social media rev up.

And finally a press release campaign (after all this is what they were designed for)

Maybe even a YouTube campaign to rev it up.
