How To "Penalize" The Competition ?

I've heard around a few Blogs and some Forums that you can "Penalize" your competition and "jump" them a few ranks....

I'm not quite sure I believe that this can happen anymore... Can it ?

If anyone could share "how" that would be nice.

well, if your competition is using blackhat methods and you can see that you can report them...

this being one of the main reasons that generally Google will not completely ban sites from its index for incoming links.

Lets all create 500k post campaigns for Digital Point using Xrumer and see if we can get it banned

Don't waste your time or karma.

Its easy to find out what your competitor is doing.. keywords...links...traffic..etc.
Just do what they are doing and then do it better.

Build a genuine white hat site and then turn it into a black hat mousetrap.

I'm all about Karma,

I do things the right way, I was just wondering because a couple of people have "jumped" me before with shitty sites and no links, or "page blog links".

See, I heard that you can buy "fake" traffic to someone site, then they will get ranked lower, and I also heard that you can hook someone's site up to a "Link Farm" and it will get banned pretty quickly, but I didn't know if that was still "Active" or not.

Yes it is possible, and no i don't mean reporting them but algorithmically instead. The less authority a site has the easier, you wouldn't be able to do it to the likes of Wiki or Google themselves.

It has happened but you are probably better off trying to get blogs or other offsite pages that refer back to your site ahead of the competitors.

it's doable, but the question is why would you even want to do that? do you really want to stoop that low?

it's not worth it for your business. just like the others said, it's easy enough to find out what your competitors are doing through a bit of research.

then just swipe what their doing and do it better.

Has anyone actually done this? I've read this type of thread written several different ways.. all theory. Nobody has stepped up and claimed this feat.

Some folk say it will work, while others say it won't. Supposedly, a quick complaint call to Google will get your site back on the map and will negate a saboteur's effort.

Just stuff I've heard. Anyway, does anyone have a first hand experience they would like to share?

Oh its totally possible. I've done it to someone in retaliation for them trying to pull the stunt on me. No one in their right mind would share this info for a load of newbies and who knows who else to go crazy with. Sorry.
