How to pad video files?

I didn't know where else to post this, but...

Does anyone know how I would take, for example, a 30 second video clip and increase the file size, while keeping the original play length?

I saw this done a while ago, but I didn't know how it was done.

one way is to use a less amount of compression..

go to this site, it has just about any video software you could ever need, they have everything there, editors, codecs, etc..

As most people's priorities are to *reduce* video sizes, I'm finding it hard to find information on increasing it..

Increasing the audio would do it as well. I dont know what the bit rate is but you could increae it to 16 bit/ with a sample rate of 192000. I know you can increase the file size based on what the audio is.

1mb to 300 mb is a big difference.. theres a lot you can change. what format is the video in and what format does it need to be in at finish? a straight avi with no compression should give you a huge file.

It depends on your use. If you want to do it to hide a .exe for example that runs on startup of the .avi for example what I'm going to tell you won't work. If you just want to increase the file size than this will work.

Download http://www.truecrypt.org/ or a similar encryption program. I picked truecrypt because it's freeware and really it's a great program. Now read the documentation or look at the forum and find out how to create a hidden volume. Basically you can hide your whole hard drive inside of an avi file or any kind of file. So of course add the size in files you need and encrypt it into any format you want. This is only used to hide files within other files so nothing that executes will work without the password.

Thanks for all the input guys! I think I finally have it. I just extracted the audio from the original file, extended the timeline for the image to the length of the audio, and then used the encoder that had the closest resulting filesize to what I wanted. Worked like a charm!

When I'm done with this little experiment, I'll make sure to document it and share with you guys. Or maybe sell the plan for $5 a pop. *evil laugh*

How exactly would you get an .exe to run on .avi startup? That would be an extremely beautiful technique!

If I told you I'd have to kill you.

I don't know how to do that, if I did I probably wouldn't tell anyone anyways because of the dangers to the world involved in that. I wouldn't be surprised if the technique already exists.

hehe, it's definitely a scary thought... good thing I'm on linux and don't have to worry about exe's

if you are running WINE or another emulator on linux it will run. probably wont have the same effect or cause any damage though

Yeah, I use WINE quite a bit, but like you said I really doubt it would be serious

I suggest you follow the advice of the previous posts and use the program called SUPER from erightsoft. Just google. It's free and works great!

Any luck? I'm curious if you could decompress and pump up the music enough to phatten it up that thick! Let me know!

That's what I started doing: If I use AVIDemux to reencode it and encode the audio as WAV PCM, it tends to fatten it up quite a bit ;D
It just takes some tweaking, but I've found it to be effective enough.

ok, i searched truecrypt and this was the only post that popped up. so ill post it here and hope some one stumbles upon it..
Dr who suggest that you create a new drive using VMWare 6 and then encrypt the whole drive with another operating system on it , so you have your regular unencrypted windows and then another drive that is encrypted. vmware is like 200$... however his article is a bit old. i downloaded the newest version and it seems like you don't need vmware. when you make a new volume it gives 3 options.
1 create a file
2 create a volume within a non system partition/device
3 encrypt the system partition or entire system drive .

im pretty new here all of this is chiness to me but im learning ... i don't know why i get the feeling i dont need vmware .. probably cause it costs 200$ lol .but no, seriously i think they made some updates.

so please let me know which option to choose to make a new virtual drive that i can put an encryted windows on and from there i should be able to follow dr whos instructions .
