I'm literally competing with a YouTube video right now and I'm not sure how to out rank it. In fact I'd rather have it removed altogether because it seems to be pulling most of the search engine traffic, it's achieved around 1 million views from the time when the video was first uploaded in 2010 and I'm pretty sure it is eating up my potential customers because it is advertising the exact same product. 1 million views over 2 years is roughly 40K hits per month... that's killing me. I was thinking a better option may be to upload a video and get a video ranked as well as my site so that the top two results would belong to me but I'm not sure how to go about this. Anyone with any ideas? Or more important experience with such cases?

PS. If that's of any help, the owner of the video has not logged in since the beginning of the year.

Youtube marketing is HUGE right now because it is easy to rank over reputable, high backlink websites.

Your best bet is to compete by making your own video and hammering it with social bookmarks, link wheels, etc.
It is a youtube video so it can take a lot.

You might end up side by side. Or you might just steal its position.
I have had both happen.

Hmmmm....yeah, good luck with that....that is my tip of the spear right now. YT marketing is where it's at

Put your keywords 1st in your title and description.

You should also use quotes for multiple keywords. Users rarely ever use 1 word searches, it's multiple words. When you use keyword quotes, you will be more relevant at the top of the results.

Like this:

"how to change a tire"
"diy change a tire"
"changing a flat tire"
"change tire"

All my gaming videos on Youtube are on the front page with these strategies.

Not really sure what you're on about here...

In terms of YouTube marketing it's always been a very good source of traffic but does anyone have any helpful experience in terms of YouTube and SEO.

Weren't you trying to increase your video rankings within Youtube's search algo? If so, that's how you do it.

It can be interpreted either way. I thought he was referring to Youtube's serps. But w/e

your best bet would be to flag the video with multiple accounts till is remove that way it wont be steal traffic from you and if you want to be greedy upload a video brand it with your site and rank is really easy so now you have 2 spots on first page

I almost thought that every single person in this thread can't read. Thank you.

This is called reading without and understanding.

Wish I could help, I have a site thats outranking 7 YT vids, and don't have a clue why... all I have is 6 pages of spun content, and a handful of BL's.

I guess I just need more backlinks, so will give that a go but I will also try creating and ranking my own video as it seems to be helpful. :)

I think YT is really hard to outrank depending on the video you're talking about.. they have millions for their SEO campaigns.. it would be more specific if you insert the video (or the keyword related) you want to outrank

Yes, the keyword is: "do I look like a sucker?".

Without the quotes mate. :)
