How to Outrank bigdogs for Amazon Affiliate Site?

Hello Guys! I was looking through to find a niche and notice a good one with less than 8000 monthly searches on main keyword and 100s in long tail keywords. But the rankings are taken away by big review sites that write reviews even about shit that doesn't even matter to the new private jets.
So my question is How to outrank these big dogs in ranking? Will ton of content help?

If you need $10k to rank for a <8k GMS Kwd, then you should prrhaps find a new keyword.

I dont understand what the 10k will be used for?
