    Hi Guys,

Most of the threads here speak about ranking for keywords using EMD's and so on.

I'm in a dilemma because i'm ranking #2 for a particular keyword. The site that ranks #1 is 10 years old and is a PR5 domain. My site on the other is just 1 and half years old and PR2.

Any tips on how to push the rankings higher?

So far i've been using SB to blast a few comments with the keyword as the name, used article marketing with links anchored to the keyword. But that's about it.

I did some on page optimization which helped move my site up from >10 to #2, but its stuck here.

The total competing websites for this keyword is 43k, which is quite small if you compare to other words.

Any tips or suggestions on this please.

First, what's the amount of exact match searches for this keyword? Maybe it's not even worth your time and effort to try going up another step.

As for outranking a 10 years old PR5 domain, you outrank it the same way you would any other. First off, fuck PR, almost worthless nowadays. Get better on-page SEO. Get more and higher quality links, as relevant as possible. That's about it really. Once you have your on-page down it's pretty much a numbers game from there.

The exact match searches doesn't come into play.

Well to answer your question Google doesn't have good search volume. But the keyword is important because it is a brand name. For example, in the last month I got 256 visits via this keyword. And managed to make just 1 sale/conversion.

All the competing sites are affiliate sites.. I am presently also looking into the landing page in order to make it more compelling to the visitor. This site is pretty much outranking me in all the 'brand name' keywords!

Personally I wouldn't even bother, but that's just me. Not enough traffic there for me to consider breaking any sweat over it.

Just get some high PR links, but you have to be ready to invest. They work wonders.

reverse engineer your competitors backlinks, see how many of them you can get for your site... then do some High PR blog commenting/forum posting.. create link pyramids and use scrapebox and xrumer on that pyramid

Of course you can, it just depends on what you'd be able to do instead, in order to make MORE. :)

Thing is... Suppose you go up to the first spot. Think you'd get any more than an extra additional sale, tops? If so, the you pretty much have $300 to invest into getting there, which I suggest you do. Put your money to work and focus on launching new sites in the meanwhile.

Download the crack of SEO Powersuite available on BHW, use the Rank Checker module to see the links to your competitor's site and the anchor text used, and then get the same backlinks. This is a good start at least!

You need to vary your linking more. It is not impossible, I did it with an 8 month old domain on a page where all of the others were 2+ years old and older and 6 of the 10 (including the top 2) were 10+ years old.

Yep, I considered these options as well. Factors such as landing page, easy navigation etc. does come into play. Just spent the last hour optimizing this and a bunch of other keywords that i'm in #2.

Also does similar content play a role? The #1 ranking site has content 30% similar to mine. Just re-wrote the matching content in order to stay unique, although i'm not sure if having a 'unique' article will make a page move higher.

Unique articles aren't likely to help you move higher by themselves. But they will however prevent you from dropping due to duplicate content.

As for your on-page SEO, do you use any sort of SEO plugin to help you analyze your on-page, or you just followed some general rules? If you don't use any plugin for this, I recommend getting Wordpress SEO, has been of great help to me. Further tweaking your on-page could definitely help you move up.

I make use of the easy WP seo plugin (there's a nulled version of that somewhere here on BHW). Interestingly enough, a bit of digging around reveled another 'upcoming' competitor that gives me reasons to believe is a BHW member ;)

Anyways, i'm now starting to create exact match blogspot accounts and scheduling them with unique articles and linking it back to my main site. A couple of SB blasts and pings should do the trick I assume!

    Fingers crossed!
