So i have this huge problem, I sold this site, transfer the domain to the person's godaddy account, then we had to switch the hosting their VPS, i've never done this before, so I copied all the files from the previous server to their server, switch the nameservers and point the 'A' host to the server, etc.

When I go to the site now, I had to set up the new site name, etc, all the old posts are gone!

    help please.

Hey dear you don't need to take so much pain transferring a site from one host to another when you can do it in less than 15 minutes without any hassle. Use backupbuddy plugin (see if you can find it for free but I highly recommend you to buy this to make your life easier). Install plugin in your old site, activate it, create a full backup of the site from the plugin option. Download that backup and copy to your new host root(don't install WP or anything on it, just plain host without any DB configuration). Access the new host and backup buddy step by step procedure will install the old site to new host. Very easy and I always use it to transfer site to new host or new domains.

Yup Backup Buddy is the way to go. You can buy it from iThemes. If you do a lot of WordPress sites, it's definitely worth it. When I build a new site for a client I do it on my staging server, then when the client approves I use Backup Buddy to transfer the entire site to their hosting account. Takes about 15 minutes or so.

You will need to setup the MySQL database on the target server. If you're not sure how to do that let me know and I post instructions.

If both host have cpanel go into the original host and do the backup wizard and back up the home directory and then back up the database.

Then go to the new use and use the backup wizard again and restore the home directory and then the database.

After you do this in the cpanel go to the database section create a user and attach that user to the database. Once you do that go to the file manager and then update the config file with the new user name and password for the database and double check the database name save and your done.

You can also use fiverr, there are gigs for this there. Also, there are tutorials for this on google, I can't post the URL here because I'm still a newbie. ::p
