I have been an owner of this domain name for almost 3 years now and it generally generates quite a bit of traffic.. but nowadays I do no work with the people on the site.. and I'm kind of pissed that I am the person registered to the domain name but they have a donation link up and I have not seen a penny... they have their host who is a friend of theirs... How can I take back my domain name and monetize this site? (i know how to take it back but have been holding off for a good idea on how I can take advantage of the traffic it gets)

Hmmm. Your site gets about what? 1000 hits a day?

Would you be simply taking over the site or restarting over from scratch? in which case, how on earth would you plan on monetizing that traffic? (kinda a rhetorical question) but I'm curious to hear your plan.

Let me know if you're interested in selling. Give me a quote if you are.

Basically I'm looking for ideas for anything...sell the domain name? take over the site? start from scratch? hell I don't know I just don't want to continue to support these guys when I was the registrar of this name... I also don't wish to associate with them any longer as they are high profile in this niche and what they deal with is not really 100% legal persay (theres an invisible line about the legality of fansubs)

For me the best idea sounds to sell the domain. Since you have user on that site that probably want to hold the site will sell the site and your legalityrisk is gone...

And you hadnt made yourself enemies.

    I would try that.

    Greetings!

    Hey,

I would look into click bank products and build an anime site loaded with those links.

(btw...Can you just take back your domain just like that without facing legalities, and possible bodily injury?)

You can't really count on their traffic. If you change things up, you're going to lose the traffic.

However, if I'm reading the subtext here then it sounds like you're just sick of them making money on your domain. If that's really it, then you can pull the plug and deal with the resulting drama, or - or - or, if you're really smart about this, you can contact them and leverage a deal; allow them to use the site for another month or so if they're willing to compensate you, and tell them at that time that you will be taking your site back. This might cut down on the drama, plus it gives you time to really think about what on earth you're going to have to do to convert their traffic successully.

    I am wondering this

I like the_demon's idea for what you might consider doing with it after you take it back.
