Hi, I'm 15 and I need different ways to monetize my micro niche site. I don't think I can do Adsense since I'll need to provide tax ID and information like that. Other offer-type places like Clickbank also require tax ID information which I cannot provide because of my age. I've heard CPA websites also require that information. How should I monetize my micro niche site? Thanks a lot, BHW!
I had the same problem when I wasn't 18. My parents were afraid that I would make enough money to bump them up a tax bracket that would make a significant difference. I recommend trying to find cpa sites that aren't based in the United States and that pay through paypal. Maxbounty is from Cananda and I don't think they care how old you are so try them.
I already have an Adsense account with my parents name, but I don't want to submit her tax information.. Will it screw her over? Will she find out? I've tried MaxBounty and I think I was rejected.
Bump, I still really need monetization ways or at least give me tips of using Adsense with your parents names!!
You can't just put in a social security number? If I remember right, that's all Clickbank asked for when I signed up. I don't remember anything about an age requirement. My recommendation? Sit your parents down ahd have a discussion with them about a business opportunity. Show them how IM and Adsense work and how you can make money from it. Tell them you want to save up for your first car, college, your first house, whatever. Promise that your schoolwork will always come first. Tell them you'll do all the work and you just need a person over 18 to use their tax info, and that as soon as you're 18 you'll delete the account with their info and make one with your own. I don't know; maybe they have some perfectly valid reason why they don't want you to use their tax info. But most parents I know would just be impressed that their kid has such initiative!
Do what ButcherPete recommends, then have your mother apply for an EIN: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=98350,00.html/ that number should work for sites requiring a tax ID, and you can keep your taxes separate from your mothers. Just make sure you consult with an accountant at tax time.
I would submit her tax information, but I don't know what it will do to her. I've heard many places where people say it screws you over or something bad like that. Is the EIN for me or for my mother? What exactly does it do? I'm not so sure if my mom has an accountant or not, haven't been into her personal stuff.
Doesn't paypal ask for tax/ss info after you make 2k in one year? Also do what ButcherPete suggested.
I am the same age, and i just entered my parent tax info. The only way it will start affecting them is if you earn a significant amount.
Hmm, I can really use a lot of advice from you since we're the same age. What about the bank account information that Adsense requests for? What did you put? I don't know my parent's bank information and I'm sure they will notify her if I did put it down.. I know, that's why I ask for help with bank accounts and parent's tax information..
If you are trying to do this without your parents finding out, that's going to be a lot more difficult. You are underage and minors can't do these things FOR A REASON. Bite the bullet and talk with your mom. The EIN is for you, but your mom has to be the one to apply, it's a business tax ID, it will keep your business taxes separate from her personal taxes. It is VERY easy to apply for online, and you get the number online instantly after applying. You can establish that this is a "partnership" between you and your mother, which gives you a legitimate way to apply to the websites you want to work with. You can screw up your mom's taxes, because if you generate income using her tax ID, she will owe taxes on that money at the end of the year. If you don't tell her and she doesn't declare it, she can get audited or even accused of fraud (which includes jail time, btw). This is obviously not something to really stress about if it's $10, but the more you earn, the bigger the risk. This is wrong, you could earn only a very small amount which pushes them into a different tax bracket, and it will affect them A LOT. I am sure your mom will be supportive of you if you are honest and upfront with her. Parents aren't as scary as they seem sometimes
Are parents allowed to sign up for an EIN for a minor? And what's the point in getting the EIN? Because they want me to focus on school. No matter how hard I let her know that I'm going to put my number one priority on school, she won't believe me on it because I always seem to get bad grades in a hard school.
you don't read very thoroughly, here are your questions with the answers I had already written: it's not for you, it's for your business - see the difference? Before you keep going, even though you might not think it's a big deal - using your parent's SS# without their knowledge is ILLEGAL and can get you into very big trouble - it's called 'identity theft" (look it up) and the fact that it's your parent's identity you are stealing doesn't make this less of a crime. I agree with her, if you are getting bad grades in high school, then adding this to what you are doing is NOT going to help. You need to take responsibility for yourself: If the condition for doing what you want to do is improving your grades, then DO IT. Show your parents you can do what needs to be done. Saying your school is hard is a lame excuse, and LIFE IS HARD. If you think once you get out of high school things are going to be easier you are very very very mistaken. ====================================== All of that said, aren't you on summer vacation? Learn how to negotiate! Why not try to make a deal that you will do IM while on vacation, and once school starts you will stop and not continue unless your grades are good. Why not discuss the project you have already made with her, explain that it will make some money if she signs up so you can put ads on it. (is the website even already ranked high enough for this to even matter?) whatever you do, don't steal your parent's info The only possible alternative I see is clicksor.com which is Canadian - they don't require SS#, and although you do technically have to be over 18, I don't see that they are verifying that. best of luck!
I retract my previous statement, and a agree with what he has said. For me i dont use adsense that much anymore so my earnings(less then 100) has not affected my parents. So as most people already said you might aswell just talk with your parents. And about the bank i signed up for a prepaid cc that comes with a online bank so i could just use that.
Yo dude, just use yours? Im younger than you and it's no issue... i do taxes just like any other guy.
How old are you? And I thought you had to be 18 and older to use Adsense? Also, what do people think of me just putting Adsense code on my site to create proof of earning, then sell the site and use the proof of earnings that I made in Adsense to show the buyer? I don't want to cash out with Adsense anymore, I just want to use if for proof. Any ideas?
Technically youhave to be over 18, but they have no way of verifying your age using your SS# you still have to have an adsense account to track the earnings, use your own SS# if you do this. Just keep in mind, the tax issues from making money selling websites are no different from earning adsense money. Do whichever makes more money - just don't screw up your parents while you are at it. Why not make an adsense account in your own name and SS#? If there's enough to want to cash out, talk to your parents then, and you can always have them help you open a student checking account at any bank.
