How to monetize 500k+ monthly pageviews and a newsletter with 200k+ opens?

Monetization gurus,

How would you monetize a site with growing traffic, 500k+ monthly pageviews? Please submit your suggestions as long as you feel confident about them. If you suggest advertising, what networks do you recommend?

Also, I send out a newsletter with good content to 2M+ members and get over 200k opens. So far I did a small test and sent it to 600k subscribers and included some CJ ads. I got over 450k ad impressions but no sales so CJ isn't converting well. Are there any networks you can recommend? Any networks that do ads for email newsletters?

Have you tried the obvious one i.e. adsense?
 
for the email you could try cpa mobile offers.
 
It totally depends on the niche you've hooked into ... if it's fart jokes and lolcats you've likely netted the lucrative "teen kids with no money" demographic. Whereas if you've got 500k pageviews and 200k opens in the Double Glazing niche you should be retiring on your own Caribbean island by now.
 
double glazing site with 500k hits :o the problem with the big money niches is they bring low traffic. unless is insurance, payday etc i.e. hard as fuck to rank for..
 
I dunno, those industries are still growing even in times of relative hardship .. just pull up the accounts of the major Double Glazing, Garages, Extensions & Conservatories companies (all publicly available info) and they're still raking it in. I guess their target audience is helping retired 'baby boomers' parting with their savings, that demographic is still fairly well off and mostly unaffected by the ongoing financial crisis.

edit: and they're also relatively naive in the online world, probably trusting the first EMD website in their address bar as an authority.

What's the niche? I have a lot of experience monetizing niches that some say are too hard to make money in :)
 
I dont believe you didnt get any conversions if you have that huge amount of emails opened and you say you have a great relationship with the list...

I mean, not sure what your niche is, but if you give good information about god, im sure you send a bible and youll get 2%+++

Anyways, amazing amount of emails/opened rate/views, you are in for some BIG money...
 
Hey guys thanks for the replies. Let me provide some more details. The site/newsletter has very good content related to upscale luxury stuff like supercars and watches etc. It has one of the best email lists IN THE WORLD. People with very high purchasing power, mostly located in the US.

The number of subscribers and the traffic keep growing and it costs money to operate. Ideally to monetize something like this I need direct contact with advertisers. But I don't have that yet. I need to hire a sales team. In the mean time I am looking for ways to monetize it to generate at least some revenue.

Does anyone have experience with ad networks and can point me in the right direction? I am sure ad networks would see a lot of value in partnering with the company.
 
I can't sell it just yet, but I know it can generate a ton of money, if I could find the right advertising partner.

[mcr] if I were you, I would start affiliate marketing.

Sign up to something like http://affiliatewindow.com and then pic/choose brands you want to work with. Pick products/brands that will resonate with your audience, luxury gifts, furniture, clothes, watches, cars, gadgets and market them on-site and within your list. I'm an affiliatewindow member and a cursory glance through the brands available looks like you will have plenty of these to choose from.

I am doing this in the Food niche at the moment as well as running AdSense on-site I incorporate Affiliate offers for Online Supermarkets, Kitchen Appliances & Accessories and Food Events. My list is run as a newsletter with new recipes & blog articles as well as affiliate offers (that bounce through my site for tracking).

Do this right and you can expect about a 5% conversion rate from your list, but it has to be curated and well thought out. If you put cr@p offers in, you will get cr@p-all out.
 
you can talk to people who are launching products. Since they are starting out, they will offer you amazing commisions.

For example, my company, offers 50% to affiliates on a $240 / year product (being sold monthly, though). That means that for 1 person that buys, you'd get $120.

If 5% out of the 200k opens that you get, will buy the product, it means that you get 10.000 buyers / email. Which translates into $1.200.000 over a year. Some churn rates will apply, so you won't get that much, but it will still be quite close.

That's why, as the others suggested, it's good to know who your subscribers are. If you sell very targeted, then you will get some really good money for your emails and growing popularity.
