I know that you have to 301 your domain to the new hosting provider, but what happens to the inner pages? That can only be controlled through the HTACCESS file, but if you switch hosting providers, that would go away. So my question is, how can you do a page-by-page 301 redirect when switching hosting providers?

Install a plugin called "redirection'. You can use it to redirect any page of your site to any url. By the way, you don't need to do any redirects unless you are switching domains.

Are you going to change your domain.com to someotherdomain.com? or you just change your file hosting to another hosting provider?

for migrating to new host doesn't need any 301 redirect, just ask your new hosting provider to transfer all the files from your existing host, they will do it for you :)

If you're not changing the domain, install xcloner plugin and you can do it yourself.

I may have asked the wrong question. What if I want to combine two separate domains residing with two separate hosting providers? Basically, I want to not only switch a hosting provider, but I want to redirect the domain to another domain page by page. Is this possible?

Say I buy a domain from someone else (and its residing on a different host) and I want to 301 re-direct all those pages to my site while also transferring it to my host. How would I do that?

Sorry , I know it sounds like a looped question.

For transfering the domain, contact your hosting provider, they will help. For 301, check this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13713782/redirect-sub-pages-to-new-domain-using-htaccess

If you are just going to change your hosting provider, you do not have to do a 301. Just migrate the site and change the DNS settings at your domain registrar
