    I have a contact us form on my website which does not have captcha.
    Every day I get a message from this guy who says "we are an internet marketing firm offering internet marketing for your business"
    If it was just once, I would delete it and move on, but this guy does it every day. I think he is using an automated tool.
    how can i mess with him and maybe waste his time?
    I am thinking of pretending to be a legit customer and then taking it from there. but i dont have any good ideas.

    Simply IP ban him or report him to the Google SPam complaint thingy.
    You could also go and find out his details and put it up on some gay website or craigslist but that maybe overkill.

    Get his IP or referrer and add a conditional statement to your contact form.
    Next time he visits sent him to a malware/phising/creepy site.

    It can't be html, it must be submiting to a server side language, just do a logic check like What's 5 + 3 and do the check as its submited to the server side language.

    Im not great at programming/coding but I believe contact us type of forms can't be in HTML. As the user above said, it has to do with server side language. The best way is to change your contact page and add some logic test/captcha.

    Don't even think about wasting his time as he's already doing so by spamming you and others. You'll be wasting yours more than him :)

    Looks like he badly wants some customers. So send him a surprise!

    Goto bitly and type 60 1's which looks like 1111...1111.com. Send the shortened link to him for analysis.

    He won't be able to post on your contact us page again!

    More about 60 1 dot com

    It's not that hard to change from HTML to php :). Just create another .php page in DreamWeaver or something like that, copy and paste your HTML code into that... Then put the neccessary php code for your forms and recaptcha. Then name your php form the same as you done with your HTML version, and update your navigation to support the new php version of the contactus page, on every other page, then delete the html version off your hosting account. Search engines will still have your old html version cached and indexed (if you havn't been deindexed otherwise) so you may want to use .htaccess to do a 301 redirect that sends visitors from the html version to your php version.

    A couple months ago I converted my whole website into php and it only took an hour by the time I manipulated the code, done .htaccess redirects, testing the pages etc. If you ever need to do this for your own site let me know and I can help you draw up a migration plan...

    Also with contact forms you want to be able to include some filters that stop people injecting malicious code via forms etc. In your forms code you should come across something that looks similar to this:
    Code:
    <form action="formsubmit.php" method="post" enctype="application/x-www-form-urlencoded">
    The "formsubmit.php" file is the php file that processes the data that the user enters in your form once the user clicks on submit/send. In this php file you will want to put this at the top of the file:

    Code:
    <?php

    $yourname = htmlspecialchars($_POST['yourname']);

    $email    = htmlspecialchars($_POST['email']);

    $phone   = htmlspecialchars($_POST['phone']);

    $comments = htmlspecialchars($_POST['comments']);

    ?>
    This is used with forms to clear out an malicious html that a user might type into your form (more info can be found by visiting http://myphpform.com/validating-forms.php).

    As for your question, if this spammer is unrepentant in spamming you, try and find a way to see the headers in the email and trace his I.P and complain to his I.S.P so he can get his connection shut and himself blacklisted from having I.S.P services or his port 25 blocked. Or you can look further into what Maruk and chinmokuyuuki said...

    Yeah I've heard similar expressions in IM before... 5 Years ago I signed up with DirectMatches.com and a few "mentors" mentioned to "turn spam into gold"... DirectMatches was about promoting your 'business" in front of other businesses and you earned money (if you joined as a paid member) if you got paid referrals. I stopped promoting them a couple months after joining them because all it was involved was copying and pasting and spamming ads etc (which I got into trouble with).

    The "turn spam into gold quote" refers to replying to your spam emails with ad templates promoting the DirectMatches program. Suprisingly, this got me 5 paid signups lol.

    Holy moly that's some scary stuff. Was going to visit that site with all the 1's in the url but thankfully watched the whole video. I can see why they call this the Ebola virus, when making comparisons with the real world Ebola virus... Is there any way to ban this site from being accessed from your machine?

    if you only have one bad spammer then your not getting enough traffic. you should thank the spammer for taking the time to find your site and work on getting more traffic and spammers.

    Why create another page ?
    Just change/rename the .html extension to .php and then add whatever you need to.

    An entire html website can just be renamed to .php and it's immediately able to take advantage of php commands.

    Just be sure to make the changes needed in .htaccess to redirect the old .html page to the new .php one or all your indexing/ranking will die.
