How to manage your Google My Business Listings – DON’T SCREW IT UP!

One of the questions that come up regularly is, how do you manage multiple GMBs?

In case you own a local business, it’s perfectly fine having several GMBs with the same company name stored on the same Gmail account.

Take good care of your Google account. You don’t want to lose the account or get locked out. Make sure to always have access to your recovery phone number and email.

I recommend accessing your Gmail account through the same IP ALL THE TIME.

In case you purchased Gmail accounts, change the recovery email and phone number asap, and keep logging into the account from the same IP address.

If you got a bunch of Gmail accounts with GMBs in different categories or locations, you should access no more than 3-5 Gmail accounts from the same IP.

I don’t have any proof that Google has or will ever disable GMB listings tied to Gmail accounts which were accessed from the same IP. It’s fine if you’re accessing 3-5 Gmail accounts through the same IP, but I wouldn’t access 30-50 accounts from the same IP.

That’s us being cautious!

You may use the same domain on several GMB listings without worrying too much about tying things together. It’s completely normal for a business to have several locations, so you’re going to be fine.

I recommend setting up an internal page for each GMB, providing sufficient customization for visitors in that specific area, for instance:

yourdomain.com/santaana

yourdomain.com/riverside

yourdomain.com/pomona

This kind of set up provides optimal relevancy and optimization for generating leads.

I recommend segmenting your GMB listings, in other words, putting all plumber GMBs on one Gmail account, putting all moving company GMBs on a different Gmail account, and vice versa.

If you got GMBs for different categories and are managing a bunch of Gmail accounts, then you should consider renting dedicated or residential proxies. Dedicated proxies are cheaper and get the job done as well. Always log in to the account with the same IP, this is key.

How to secure your listings in the event of getting locked out of your Gmail account?

Make yourself a manager or co-owner. You can use another Gmail email which you’ve access to. Each Google My Business listing should have a co-owner or manager. Problem solved.

Hope this helps!

Really good info as I'm starting with GMBs. Thanks.

Please, when you are using GMBs just to generate calls to a pay per call affiliate network, without no physical address or location how do you go about it?

And the site I will be using is a national site.

Question about naming gmbs with a brand.

Say for example I have a business that ranks well for a plumber in NYC. “Johns plumbing”

If I want to add more gmbs would I title them also “Johns plumbing” or “Johns plumbing Manhattan” and “Johns plumbing TriBeCa”

Each GMB listing has an address tied to it. You simply come up with an address that is not currently taken by another business.

Use a number which you OWN and redirect it to the network's number. You don't want to build an asset and use a number which can be taken away from you at any point.

Yes, you got that right. If you want to build a brand, then maintain your brand name throughout your GMBs like;

John's Plumbing Manhattan
John's Plumbing Jersey City
John's Plumbing Brooklyn

Thanks for the reply. I have seen that is technically against google terms to add anything to your listing that isn’t in the real name. So adding Manhattan, jersey city isn’t technically allowed.

Have you had any problems with this. As this is my real business I can’t afford any risks.

Super keyword-optimized titles are good for achieving rankings fast but as you said it's not the best long term strategy for sure.

If you want to be conservative, then just choose your real business name.

I find using internal pages the most efficient one

Yes, I agree with that 100%. Make the effort and set up an internal page for each GMB listing.

Thank You for the INFO. One more thing I want to mention is if you are creating GMB's for lead generation. Don't create GMB's directly. First create social media profile of particular GMB and register it into some directories. After few days create GMB.
