how do you make your backlinks extremely hard to find? I asked this question a while ago and the answer I got was "it's not possible, backlinks are public information"
However....this thread today really inspired me:
    Code:
    [URL]http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/584291-number-1-google-highly-competitive-phrases-without-backlinks.html[/URL]
I think the sex chat owner is brilliant. whatever he has done, it worked and competitors cannot go and read his backlink profile. I give him an A+ for the nice job.

anyway, I read through that entire thread and I still don't know how to do it. I know it involves one or more 301 redirects, htaccess, and robots.txt

Can anyone write some clear instructions how to do it?

I would have thought denying host referrers from sites like ahref.com in the .htaccess would have been enough. Never tried it though.

ahrefs, moz, semrush all have bots that traverse the web looking for backlinks just like Googlebot does. These bots identify themselves with a user-agent string so all you need to do is redirect those bots away when you detect any unwanted user-agent strings in the header of each request.

Make sure you do the htaccess method if you're going this route, robots.txt is readable by anyone.
