I have shittons of domains that have dropped after the latest update or haven't really picked up? One had like 10 kw-s ranking top 300, now it has like 4 ranking in top 300, some in top 40 etc. I haven't done any agressive linkbuilding at all, only like 20 or so high pr blog comments, 50+ handmade highly spun (human readable) web 2.0-s etc.

I have no idea if the sites are penalised or not, they are all still indexed. I don't want to waste money on these sites if they are fried, how can I make sure they are done? Btw: I have no notices in GWMT also.

There are plenty of ways to make sure your site is penalized, but I don't recommend any of them.

Search google for your meta title in " ", if your site does not come up, it is very likey penalised.

I also like to copy a few sentences of unique content from one of my pages and Google it, both with quotation marks and without. If it doesn't return as the first result, or even in the first few, then it's a pretty sure sign that Google isn't too pleased with you. If your site title or domain doesn't return first, then it's a definite sign.

I copied first couple of sentences without quotes and it came back as the first result. My site title didn't come out without quotes but with quotes it was 3rd. My other post titles did not come out without quotes but with quotes the came out as the first results.

Maybe it might be just a google dance. Wait few weeks and do no / or keep on link building. I'm sure they will come back.

search for your domain name in google (without the .tld), if you are not on the first page, start to worry, if you see scrapers ranking pages about your domain in front of you - sites like valuation tools, domain analyzers, recently expired, whois, etc.. then you are definitively penalized.
