The bounce rate on one of my blogs is pretty high, and I'm not sure how to make it go down. I have a "related posts" plugin installed, but I don't think people are actually clicking on any posts. I don't think my posts suck? What else can I do?

Think like a consumer. How did the visitor get there? Is your header and pictures relevant? Do you have something that grabs their attention? Do you provide quality content that is worth reading?

If you follow these guidelines, you should be able to lower the bouncerate. Also, even a big attention grabber can reduce bounce rate by a lot.

If your bounce rate is high, then your posts suck. Period. There is a reason that they're not staying on the page; you're not giving them what they want. Most of the time G00Gle searchers are literal. So if you have a keyword like "get a million dollars", do your best to give them educated information on how to get a million dollars. Don't create your posts just to get adsense or CPA money. Create your posts for the searcher FIRST, and then everything else will fall into place.

Flibbert, do you find that visitors stay longer if there are more images on the page vs. an article of 100% text?

Are the related posts at the sidebar or under the article? I would position related posts under the article and make sure the settings are optimized to provide relevant results

and like some members have said showing article images and thumbnails is a huge interactive +
Blogger/Wordpress makes this an easy drag and drop usually

You definitely want images, or video if possible. Those stand out much more than text ever can (unless you're writing about the time cube). You might also want to change the design of your site. If it looks unprofessional at all, people will just leave (again, unless you go well into schizophrenic ranting territory, in which case it just completes the image).

Yes, I do. Visually stimulating web pages are much more interesting than a bunch of text. You've seen proof in this forum. Some guy posts something with a long, detailed, drawn-out explanation, and no one wants to read it. Some other guy posts a funny video or picture, and they get HUNDREDS of replies within the hour. Why do you think that is?

Here's what you should have on your web pages to keep people more interested and to lower your bounce rate (you don't have to have them all on the same page, but using one or more of these elements will keep people more interested):

    -bullet points
    -images
    -videos
-changing the color of your text and headlines
-page elements that MOVE AROUND or catch the eye
-elements that allow the visitor to INTERACT with your site

Getting people to stay on your site's longer is pretty easy when you think from your targeted audience's point of view.

The key is to first understand what your audience really wants. Once you know that, giving them visually appealing, relevant content becomes quite easy.

Flibbert gave a whole bunch of great tips for content which all work great for lowering bounce rats, so take a look at those if you haven't already.

bounce rate has to do with the quality of the website. It could be a poor web design or simply bad content. Normally it's bad content, I would focus more on original content that is well written.

The key here is to get the visitor to stay long enough on your page that they get bored and want to navigate from your page to another. You help establish this navigation with cpa or ads relative to their interest.

You need to purposely bore them maybe half-way/3/4 of the way through the article that they feel thety need to move onto something else at that time

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'm going to try a few different things (adding more pictures, for one) and see if that helps. What's weird is that although my bounce rate is pretty high I have a good amount of people returning to the site multiple times a day.

WildDisease, the related posts thing is located under the article, but I don't think people are clicking on them anyway so I may just get rid of it.
