Hi,

Ive got one for ya's!

I run a computer network for a small organization comprising of 500 computers. Most of the time they are not actually in use and I have full control and say for what they do etc.

I was thinking, is there a way I can make money from both their downtime and/or from when people are using them?

Any ideas on the matter?

Yes. Use autosurf accounts... Use firefox with adblock+ and noscript. also disable image loading and mute sounds, disable java. Run 24/7.

You use the plugins and settings above for these reasons:
- sound would be annoying
- noscript stops viruses and exploits
- ad block cuts down ads, and resources load
- no need 4 java to be running
- no need to load images if you won't be looking at the screen

Sell Accounts via ebay once they hit a large threshold or sell back if possibble.

set them up as servers. If you're doing blackhat, you can set them up for seedboxes (torrents).....theres alot you can do with them.

:usa:

Good Ideas!! :-)

How would I make money from them being seedboxes?

Get a higher end networkable password cracking tool (cracks passwords for document files), and put it on all of the computers. Set up a service to crack passwords. You'd be surprised how much companies pay when they fire someone, only to realize that they don't have the passwords to all of those really important spreadsheets. ;)

Send out 50,000,000 spam emails daily by using each machine to pump out 100,000 a day. This would actually be pretty bad ass if you had a list--spam sucks though... I take that back :)

i suggest you be very careful with whatever you do - if i was the owner of these 500 computers, i would not wanna see some guy messing around blackhat with them...

are they all on the one IP, if not why not get a script that can dropcatch domain names from verisign. So that we dont have to pick up the crumbs from the table of 2 or 3 money grabbing big boys.

What's your connection like?
How many IPs?

Sooo many possibilities..... *salivates* ;)

Currently one IP.. But access to a lot more if i need them.

ADSL2 Connection.

If you are not the owner of these computers and you fiddle around with them and somebody gets pissed or discovers what you have been doing, you could and most likely would be charged with illegally accessing a protected computer.

I'd forget all about it, right fast!

sounds like a botnet to me!

access if way different than ownership, goodluck!

That's a really good point, especially as it pertains to doing anything potentially illegal.

There are plenty of (at least nominally) legal ways to make money off of that many computers, though. If your company is privately held, and you can get a moment with one of the owners, ask them if they would be amenable to doing a profit split with you, if you could come up with a way to put the computers to work when they would otherwise be idle. If they say yes, then take the best legal idea you got, and write up a mini BP, and get them to sign off on it, and away you go.

If you don't think that you could get anyone with the authority to do so to bless your project, then proceed, or not, as you will, but know that if you get caught, it will be viewed as theft, or worse.

I am the authority. There is no problem what so ever with me doing whatever I want with them. That is not an issue.. AT ALL.

Anyone with any ideas?

YOUTUBE VIEWS~!!!!!!!

oh sucks right? those computers and resources.............

Stick a paid to search box on all of the so you get paid when your staff search the internet. Will get you 2.2p per search made so if they are doing 1 each per min u in decent money :D

Theres money in what you do with them. Get their views, link them to your site, earn from your site's content.
