Thanks Wiz. I didn't see those posts but before I even read the thread, I knew some smart-ass would come up with a racist/stereotypical comment. Great to see that BHW takes a stance against such behaviour.

You're being a little too broad, I cant imagine a product that will be of interest to EVERY African American Men out there. Whats the general niche? Who will buy? Youngsters? Middle Aged? Retired? Whats the socioeconomic status you are aiming at?

Facebook is perfect for this. If you want to go a different route, find 2-3 popular sites that sell clothing to that category, then:
    - Go to google adwords tool and analyze the keywords associated with these sites, next set a site targeting the popular among them
    - Go to Alexa and analyze the upstream for these sites, this is where they get the traffic from: try to advertise on the upstream sites

I know alot of black people (i don't say african american because some of my black friends aren't african american). Every black person I've ever known likes rap/hip hop. This means that most of them tend to like certain brands of clothes though that's not always the case. Also, most of my black friends use alot of skin care lotion on their elbows, knees, and feet and usually its coco butter lotion. I don't know many black woman as friends but I have met many of them and several of them are into hair extensions. Also its pretty obvious that their makeup is different since it has to be darker colors. Other than that there isn't much else I can think of off the top of my head.

Tony to be honest with you.. your target isn't 13-34 only. My day job is working for a large fashion clothes watches and accessories company who does little advertising. The people who wear our clothes, handbags, mens leathers, shoes and watches are 16-35 but we have found the people who BUY our products are 35-50 (parents). Maybe you should think of how to offer a product for the 13-34 in a way that the 30-50 age range will find acceptable to buy.

So even though a nice rack. pretty face, and nice ass may appeal to most guys and nice abs, great hair and handsome face may appeal to ladies, what is the image you want the wearers of your products to love and the buyers of your products to accept.

Have a contest of some sort where people enter by sharing a link to your site on Twitter and Facebook. Once the ball starts rolling on that, it only grows bigger. And to start you only need a few people to share it.

I'd identify what the target audience buys, or the type of items they buy, build info sites around that with the keywords related to those items, which will bring you SEO traffic. Put articles and info linking to your site on social communities and specialty black consumer and social hubs, thus snagging you social traffic. Maybe even hire somebody to create an Android app that makes shopping more convenient for the target audience, and point much of it to the .mobi version of your site---voila, mobile traffic as well. Here's some more demographic background urls based on a search done on "what African Americans buy:"

    Code:

    Ask a black man?

You can pay me $200/ hour and I will tell you everything you need to know about black men.

My experience: 32 years as a black person

Step #1: We like women shaped like the one in my avatar!

You must buy a minimum of 10 hours of my time.
