That's not how it works. :D
If you use a laptop, your private key stays on your laptop, which can be accessed; if it gets hacked (yes, linux can have virus too.. so can mac).. BUT, if you use a hardware wallet, your private key is ONLY saved inside the wallet. Get it? :D

Well, there's only so much I can do man. I'll be moving my crypto stuff from my very active work laptop to a very safe laptop that will spend 99% of its life sitting in a drawer. I say it's good enough.

Besides, you can never be 100% safe.

Here is how you do it:
1. Install Linux mint, the learning curve is minimal, UI is simple easy for any Windows user.
2. DO NOT INSTALL UN-NECESSARY PROGRAMS
3. Use a browser like Vivaldi, no chrome nope. Enabled ad blocker in Vivaldim also install a popup blocker.
4. Use a hardware wallet, that is the safest.
5. Do not put random USBs into the system run programs that you do not know about.
6. While installing Linux mint, choose to encrypt the volume.

You are Good to go. Enjoy.

PS: Your friend might not be that much tech geek, must have done stuff by mistake, and it was your responsibility to create an another account for her while handing out thee laptop or tell her that she can use your account only not to create her own. The fact that she created her own account so that she does not have to mess up with your files is that she is surely smarter than you.
and if you really had so much problem with giving her the laptop then why did you give it, so stop wining about things that people do by mistake, just forgive and move on.

You don't need a user account, you don't need a profile picture for your user account, you don't need a password for it. Don't you have anything better to do than setting up a user account?

Yeah, definitely very smart to have a password on your home computer while you live alone. Just so that you can waste your useless fucking time inputting your unnecessarily long password to enter windows every time you restart your machine. Jesus christ. Good for you for having the luxury to waste your time, but I don't.

Yeah someone is gonna break in and steal your lap top and with no password they'll be able to steal your crap. Okay then put a password on YOUR laptop. But don't put a password on a laptop you borrowed for 1 week. For fucks sake dude by the time you create the user profile and create a password and upload a profile picture the week has already passed and you have to give the laptop back. Of course you can be a dick and not live up to your word (because your word means nothing) and give it back 3 weeks later, but that's a different story.

First thing hackers gona do is to target chrome, also brave is not based on chrome it is based on chromium and so is vivaldi.
Vivaldi has some more security features than chrome. + I personally don't like chrome lmao

She heard that you are into crypto so she "borrowed" that Pc to install viruses that won't be gone after format.
Now you just move your wallet to that pc and all your money is gone now

I would not recommend Ubuntu to a newbie but your choice.
Passwords are not just for the login wall, set em up they are necessary they serve a lot more purpose than that. Specially if you are setting your PC for crypto.

Some things that I forgot to mention:

3) Linux is virus free until you mess up, While learning it from youtube or anywhere do not execute random scripts. Beware

Next time someone asks to borrow my lap top I'll find a way to disable the user accounts thing.

You press button -> wait a few seconds -> lap top is on and on fire and ready to use! Go bro! Kick their asses! Make that money! YEAH!

Laptops/electronics have a short life even if you don't use them.

Short? Define short?

My oldest lap top is about 8 years old, and it was bought second hand, so it's at least 9 years old. Still works.

In fact all of my computers and lap tops still work. I only had 1 thing break ever, and it was a power supply a few days ago. And that power supply was purchased second hand, my bad.

And all my shit works 24/7/365 non stop.

I don't know, maybe we have different experiences, but I am extremely satisfied with the lifespan of my lap tops and computers.

But keep in mind I don't fuck with them. I just let them do their thing, and they're happy, and I'm happy, and everybody's happy. You guys your computers break and explode and shit happens, but that's probably because you kick and spit and throw water at your laptops/electronics. I don't do that so it's all good :D
 
Red Linux & Ubuntu is the Option for You Cheap and Best

Just check out Ubuntu ( https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop ). It's so close to windows. You would not believe it.

It's not necessary. You can be safe on a Windows machine, if you are careful.
