I was surfing on youtube and came across a story about Venezuela and how 90% of the people are now in poverty because of the mismanagement of the economy by the government (I know, I know... no politics - fine what ever).

Anyways... it got me thinking... "I wonder how much it would cost to rent a house down there"....

so my curiosity brought me to Air B N B.... and I found this property ....

    https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/5882853

Its a 3 bed room detached house in a private, gated community, fully furnished with everything you'd want and need (not sure about internet though).

And the ludicrous price for all of this .... just $300 (more or less).... honestly that's dirt cheap - I think in many developed nations you'd be paying at least $2k for something like that.

So if any of you are feeling adventurous - and been thinking about becoming a digital nomad - why not consider going to Venezuela? Everything is DIRT cheap - but its still a pretty stable (i.e no civil wars). 3 guys sharing that property and you are paying $150/month to live like kings (I'm assuming cost of living like food & travel & internet etc. could be covered for $50) LOOOOL maybe I'm way off.... anyone from that part of the world that can confirm this?

Its indeed dirty cheap, but the situation there is pretty fucked up. Go Google "Maduro Diet". And there are elections coming that are going to be rigged most likely.. so nope - I would pass, too dangerous.

the 3L , location says it all. The quality of the building is more than likely better than 90% in the US, but you could also look up what does it cost in Afganistan etc. as warn-torn is pretty close (if not the same) as the situation here

Why would you go to a supermarket not like they would have anything. The other day I watched a section about Venezuela on Last Week tonight (comedian paired with news) and for one Plantain you could have bought a house 25 years ago, and all you buy on a market : they will weigh the money as it is just too much to count.

Yep, saw a guy said he added 20 notches on his belt due to Maduro diet. 75% of people there lost 20lbs (~9kg in the past year)

Aren't people dying to move out of Venezuela and not in? I've never heard anything good about the place, apart from now, cheap rent.

The guys who are staying there should have been kidnapped by now for a ransom of 500 USD.

No idea why you'd think that... dish dish dish.

    Where's here? BHW?

You're too scared. I don't think its that dangerous - haven't you read the 4 hour work week? Most people over there look at the crime news about the US and think "I would never go there, its too dangerous..." - remember the media MAINLY (if not, only) shows you the worst news.... because that's what sells.

Fake news. Thought I'm sure some people are probably very hungry from the depressed economy.

Crime in Venezuela is widespread, with violent crimes such as murder and kidnapping often increasing annually. The United Nations has attributed crime to the poor political and economic environment in the country,[1][2] which has the second highest murder rate in the world.[3][4] Crime has grown so pervasive in Venezuela that the military is ordered to avoid public places during nighttime hours since criminals often attempt to steal their weapons, with robberies in the country often targeting unaware individuals using a kill first, steal later method.[5] However, even opposition intellectuals have stated that NGOs manipulate statistics. The NGO Observatorio Venezolano Para la Violencia created more than 6,000 deaths in a fictitious manner and that was demonstrated in 2016. [6] No one really knows how accurate these statistics are after all.

Yeah, I'd probably not move there if I was a married guy with kids... but if you're a single bachelor and you're aren't too risk averse .... why not, no more dangerous than Chicago or Detroit. Just gotta be street wise and not roam around at night by yourself.

I doubt Afghanistan is as developed as Venezuela - Afghanistan has been at war for decades now - Venezuela had one of the strongest economies on the continent for most of the 2000s before the oil price crashed.

Do you have any information about investment opportunities in Venezuela ? It's economy may be down now, but it will go up .. if you sit hlod long enough (maybe it will rise with bitconnect LOL).

Its not cheap, you pay that much because it has one of the highest murder rates in the world, so you are paying with your life security instead.

Its like saying I found this really cheap apartment in Syria
Or I found this cheap mansion in isis controlled parts of Afghanistan.

I don't think Venezuela is as dangerous as those well actually, no I do because if you're clearly a western or non native going around then it probably amps up the danger even more than it already is for a local.

It's nothing like Detroit, yeah sure that place has bad parts but it doesn't work anything like that, with Detroit you just stay in safe areas and dont go to dangerous parts, and just have your wits about you, there is no safe places in Venezuela its all on the same level, these places don't work like north American cities do, you will actively be hunted for kidnapping.

The USA and UK governments don't put out travel warnings for advice not to travel to Detroit but they have a constant one out for Venezuela, its a totally different ball game.
Even somewhere 'safe' like Lagos in Nigeria is a different ball game to places like Detroit.

I dated a girl who was from there she was in UK as a student she seemed to confirm this and that was when it was safer and shes from a rich/safe family.
