    Hello!

I've started building a website on Shopify for a specific video game niche that has high research volumes. I've made some extended keyword research and the results are saying there is a lot of competition! Mostly Amazon and Ebay takes all the top 10. These two I couldn't outrank on the major keywords, but maybe on the long-tail ones. However, the other websites are really badly optimized and I believe I could outrank them. (Using long tail pro + platinum they have a keyword competitiveness under 30). After a few hours of research, I've found over 100 long tail keywords I could optimize.

My question is, however; Should I give up seeing Ebay and Amazon owns the market already? Will people still buy on my website if prices are lower, but shipping time takes a month? Should I simply turn the domain into a blog and do affiliate marketing?

Second question: I found a second niche that has decent searches and NO (bad) competition. Should I instead focus on this one?

Thank you guys! I'm reading / learning a lot about SEO but there's a lot of questions still unanswered...

PS: If any of you want to take a look at my niche PM me

Nobody can really answer for you. If the longtail looks juicy then give it a go. But perhaps also hedge your bets by building the blog as well.

what you ask, perhaps has less to do with seo and more with whether can you compete with amazon in selling stuff.
its only you who knows best.

as far as seo goes, its often possible to find low competition, long tail keywords and building an informative blog around them
is the easiest form of content marketing that generates targeted traffic.

Thanks for the answers guys. I'll let it run for a few weeks and take it down if I get no results. Building another something on the side just in case. I guess we'll see

I think you need a bit more time than a few weeks, yes you are up against the big guns but you can get the edge over them. why not offer reviews also on the site, set up a blog and maybe a forum. giving people something different and all in the same place builds trust and makes your site a destination for the niche. look at Facebook, all he did with that is do it better than everyone else. Just be better than your competition

I love how you see things. I guess if I'd get only 0.5% of the traffic it could still do good. I'll put a lot of efforts into the blog and reviews, although it might appear like I'm trying to sell my product since it would be the same domain.

    Thanks :)

Selling things or " Making recommendations " as i prefer to call it will not annoy your visitors if you offer a lot of useful content and things for them to look at and do, they will see you as an authority. just about every site you'll ever visit is " selling something ".
Let people enjoy, learn and be part of your site with interaction and you be successful. filling your site with useless content and ads everywhere just speaks of desperation and they'll never come back. good luck!
