Sandboxed and de-indexed are two different things -

Sandboxed is where your site ranks much lower than it should and some believe that it is a punishment from google for shady practices. So if you use the site:'mysite.com' method that will not tell you if your site is sandboxed, it only tells you if your site is indexed. Others think the sandbox is something google does to new sites at random and can last up to 10 months.

I tend to believe that google sandboxes new sites at random, because it seems to happen to me with some new sites that I know I should defiantly be ranking better for and google has neither denied or confirmed the existence of the sandbox.

Google Sandbox effect is the ‘Time Delay' factor. Essentially, this theory suggests that Google releases websites from the Sandbox after a set period of time So Dont Worry

There is no set time, I have few sites sitting in sandbox for more then a year, got few sites which came and went again in sandbox several times... few went for just a week to 15 days...

Google isn't disclosing how they doing it but filtering depends upon your SEO practice and competition of niche... I am just assuming it from my past experience and information gathered from Internet...
