Antichrist Note: I ran into this method a day or two ago, gave it a try, and works like a charm. Taking no credit for it but posting it here as I rarely work with Instagram.

So I just found out that Instagram algorithm for choosing which posts will go in the "Top posts" section is pretty fucked up and easy to growth-hack. It's only based on simple parameters (and well, a good picture helps also) :)

Instagram algorithm is really simple, like Facebook post algorithm. If your photo/video receives comments/likes in short period of time, it has way more chance going viral and get to the "Top-posts" page.

Here's an example of a post that I made 41min ago (look for the Gold Apple watch picture on black background) it's now the "top post" in all those hasthags: #applewatchsport #applewatchedition #dohafashion #instadoha #dohaqatar #kuwaitfashion #kuwait_city #luxuryshopping #dubaiwatchclub #instaqatar #engraved And yes also #danbilzerian

I posted the picture on an account of a brand I manage (20.7k followers) In order to increase dramatically the chance of getting to top posts I asked 6-7 people (from the office, and friends) to make a comment on it and I buyed around fake 100 likes (I don't recommend that since it's against Instagram TOS but it works and tons of people are doing that).

That's all that was needed to get on top. Without the extra comments and likes the post probably wouldn't have made it to the top.

Because Instagram take the growth rate of a picture, the more likes/comments you get in the less ammount of time, the more chance you have to get there (and it stays for 24h or more sometimes). Apparently comments weight more than likes (even comments with just an emoji)

It doesn't matter if your account has 20k or 2k followers. As long as the post growth is higher than most others it's ok.

It has worked for hashtag with 275'000 medias in it (#instaqatar) It could work for much bigger hashtags like #fashion but it would be 10x more difficult (because there's 10 time more content)

This is pretty much common sense I guess.. order auto likes on your post and get on the top. A lot of people do that.

Nonetheless, It's a great tutorial for those who didn't know this. :)

Sounds simple enough.. The more competitive the niche the harder it will be to hit the top spot. Sounds like any other area of SEO I guess.

Still, interesting thoughts on the 'growth rate'. Will start implementing.

Nice method! How much did you gain after getting onto the top posts page?

So that's simply "fake it til you make it" method. :) Don't think it's anything ground-breaking,
but I guess it will be helpful to some people. Luckily, I've worked hard on my page, did everything manually for months,
& now I don't have to worry about these things. Plus, Top posts section came in as a nice surprise & an award from IG. :)

Depending on when I post a photo, I get hundreds of likes in short amount of time. Sometime, even 500+ in an hour.
And it works for me well so far. But the comments thing, never thought of it that much. Guess I don't have to, either.
Sorry for showing-off a little, guess it's finally 'my moment'.
